Have you ever sat your local game store and either didn't have enough time for another game of (insert favorite war-game) or didn't want to unpack dozens of models?
Well, Lurch from MWWG has written up an informational primer on all the filler games you can play that take very little time and very little $$$.

I like the article. I own mercs, dark age, and marvel. Used to own batman. Never had arena rex.

Woulda been nice to go into details on cost though for arena, batman, and marvel. Price points were given for mercs and dark age, both I agree on, but nothing for the other 3.

More filler game review would be great. On the flipside a article on "main" games would be good to see. Same format, entry price points to play.

Yea, I would love to see some more recent reviews of Urban War's second edition. I always liked the VOID models, and am still a fan of Urban Mammoth's take on the universe and the fluff of it. Almost done reading the free downloadable fluff (and there's a decent amount of it), am I am quite impressed.

Interesting Post. Over half the games our club plays could be considered filler games. We play alot of different games though, and playing alot of the type of games in the post would be pretty cost-prohibitive so we do games that have less restrictions on what models you use.

We also gravitate toward games with less rules. Cheap and easy to play has been a great recipe for our flller games. Some of of our favorites:

-Song of Blades and Heroes: Fantasy Warband Skirmish. You can use literally any fantasy figure with their warband builder.

-Dragon Rampant. Fantasy Platoon Skirmish. 30-50 figs per side. A very tactical ruleset but still easy to play.

-Mech Attack: 5-10 units per side works well in virtually any scale though it's easiest in 6-15mm. Feels satisfyingly Battletech'ish but has less than 10% of the rules and plays in 1/5th the time.

-Necromunda: Can be a bit pricey if you go with original models, but there are good alternate model options, forces are small, and the game is ace. Yaktribe's "Necromunda Community Edition" in particular plays really smooth.

-In The Emperor's Name: Warband Skirmish in the 40k universe but with Song of Blades level of complexity. And it's free.

Other good options that fit within our general preferences for cheapness and ease of play that we don't play much ourselves might include:
-Frostgrave
-This is not a Test.
-Saga
-Of Gods and Mortals
...and there are many others. Virtually all the many games produced by Osprey fall into this category of medium to lightweight games that are well written and tend to not be tied to one line of miniatures.
