So I am buying my paints this week, as I am starting Space Wolves(I know I said Blood Angels, but upon further research I love the wolves more). The paint line I chose was p3 because I like the size of their line, the colors, pot design, liquid pigment, price, etc. But it seems they don't have a direct comparison to the Space Wolves grey, or whatever it is called now. So does anyone here use P3 paint and know what colors I should use or mix with what to make my wolves? Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance

i use Trollblood Base as my main color for Space Wolves armor...
my highlight color is Underbelly Blue...
my shade is Coal Black, but you can also try Beaten Purple, if you want to get a little funky

this is the look:

hope that helps

That's actually the color I'm going for. How exactly do you do the highlights and shade on your models?

this guy was painted in '09, so my techniques have been refined a lot since then, but overall, i simply use the layering technique...

i start with the Trollblood Base to get nice solid coverage...
shading comes next with thinned Coal Black...
to start the highlights, i mix the Trollblood Base and Underbelly Blue, starting at about 2-1 T.B. to U.B., then 1-1, then 1-2, then pure U.B. on the very edges...
just play around with mixes on a piece of sprue or a test model, and see what you personally like the look of

you can see some of my step-by-steps for other minis in my WIP blog, to check out how i shade and highlight...

the Sanguinary Priest helmet on page 1 is a good example, especially the back side, where you see a lot of contrast...

Thanks man. Do you wash the whole model with thin coal black or do you just deposit it in the recesses of the models?

just work the shade into the recesses, but you don't have to be too careful, as you can always tidy up with the Trollblood Base again...
the tricky thing is when you want to get more advanced with smooth transitions on leg plates and such, or save yourself clean-up time...
the wash stage is the only time that i'm sloppy, and the tidying-up is the slowest part of my painting...
more control will definitely save you time...

good luck!!!

you may want to put Greatcoat Grey on your shopping list, too...
it is my favorite dark bluish grey, and the color i use for the chipping...
it also works great as a base for the furs, and mixes beautifully with Underbelly Blue, too...

i've been using the P3 range for 10 years now, so if you have any other question about their colors, and unique tones, feel free to ask...

glad i could help

cheers
