Hi all,

Finished this guy today – been painting him as a tutorial for my blog (here). I don't like too much bling on my Blood Angels, but the trim on the shoulder pad from the upgrade sprue just had to be painted gold

Hope you like!

Very nice model.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

Great work Luther. I think you are correct the trim needed to be gold.

Fantastic paintwork...though it's a bit silly the entire thing is ruined for me by the "bolter shell keychain!" nonsense hanging under the barrel.

Minus that I'd say it's lovely! The fade on the company symbol looks a little weird as it's red at the top and goes to yellow - but that's probably just an odd highlight issue.

Flawless paint job! Nice work, dig the shades and the shoulder pad, everything flows perfectly.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

This is a fantastic looking figure and a great tutorial! I've got BaC coming in the mail, and something like this would be a great way to get all the tacticals done quickly so I can actually play.

Just looked at the blog and it's an amazing use of the zenithal highlights. Well done!

Looks awesome man, really wanted to check out the blog but it got blocked at work. Will check it when I get home.

I think it all came together very nicely.

Thanks all!

@ Desaxe, I'm glad you like it - it took me a LONG time to perfect the red! As you'll see from the tutorial I use some unusual methods to get it 'just right' - dark blue pre-shading, yellow basecoat etc

What! That's the marksman's honor, a device used to recognize those Astartes that perform acts of remarkably accurate shooting or consistent performance with their targeting. The Codex Astartes insists that those warriors who prove their combat accuracy should be singled out so that their skill may be instantly commanded.

I like him a lot. Very nice "dark and gritty" look, which is not easy to do with a model that is clad head-to-toe in a strong primary colour like red.

Great paintjob Luther! Loving the edge highlights which are cleanly executed and really makes the model 'pop'. How long did this guy take to paint?

Thanks for the comments!

@ Eggroll, I'm not exactly sure because I painted him in three sessions corresponding to the three stages of the tutorial, and they were each about a month apart as I was working on other things / busy with RL in between...

I would say it probably took about three hours in total, but if I painted a whole squad in the same way it wouldn't be that long per model, if that makes sense?

Yup makes sense. Just trying to get a sense of how well the process would scale out to complete squads.

I think it would scale really well. Each step is pretty quick really and would be easy to do in batches.

I like the mini and I like the tutorial as well.
Except for the very dissapointing part 3...
At least explain the techniques you used for the weathering etc.

PS: thanks for the Lahmian Medium tip, I just tried that on my recent marines and it really gives a very nice finish

Gorgeous. I love the slightly rough weathered look, I wish my Blood Angels looked like that!

Thanks again for the comments guys!

@ Aeri, I will go back and add some more detail to the tutorial regarding the weathering, but essentially I used a small piece sponge very lightly first to give some random spots, then added to them with a brush. On a tank you can use just a sponge but the areas of an infantry model are too small so I only use it to start things off and give some randomness.
