If I cast executioner, which is a focused witchfire, but I don't harness excess warp charges (so I don't pick the target) and the closest model is a character, can he look out sir? Assuming he can and does, if I do 2 wounds, and he saves neither, what happens? One model or two models die? Does thr power stop or do I get to continue it and roll for two hits at another model in the unit? Thanks for your input!

He can look out sir as long as their is an appropriate model (i.e. a model in the character's squad) within 6"

As per the Executioner power, you inflict 3 hits on a single model. If that model dies all excess wounds are lost and you then apply 2 hits to another model in the unit. If that model dies then you inflict 1 hit to another model in the unit etc.

But if he looks it out, the model I targeted is not the model taking the hits. I don't have the exact wording, but it specifies if the target model dies, then you get to resolve hits against another model in the unit.

Ah, I see the issue. I can't remember if LOS just allocates the wounds to another model (in which case the LOS'd model would die and as per the wording of the rule states, your target model did not die the power would fizzle) or if LOS'ing changes the target of the power (allowing the power to continue as intended)

In any case I can't answer this until I get back home and have a rulebook in my hand...

You LOS! wounds allocated, not hits. And btw, you can always LOS, even if you harness more WC to pick the target, the target can then LOS.

But I am pretty sure that even if the wounds are reallocated via LOS, you still get the additional hits if THAT model dies. Just because a game mechanic changes the original target, doesn't mean the new target isn't a targeted model.

The new "target" isnt actually a target, as epr the game rules.

The second paragraph of executioner tells you what to do when you harness an extra charge.

The Third paragraph tells you what to do if you did not. Well, if you read "chosen randomly" as the closest model(since that paragraph is obviously meaning you met but did not exceed charges as their is no way to choose the target randomly and therefore it would never come into play)

LoS! Is just followed as normal: first target takes 3 hits, to wound rolls are made, each wound gets reallocated(if LoS! Successful), per executioner no extra hits are done to the unit unless the target of the power(the character) dies.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Are you saying that if I were to inflict two unsaved wounds, then two models would die?

Unless Executioner specifically says it only affects a single model, there is nothing forcing you to only allocate wounds to a single model. All focused witchfires do is let you target a specific model but you still follow normal rules for allocating wounds

Also, for the roll to wound, would you guys use the model's toughness, or the unit's (which is the majority)?

LoS! Re-allocates a single wound at a time from the character to the model in range. Each wound is then either saved or applied as unsaved(via failed save or no save allowed).

In either case(and either case of the Character directly targeted or just being the closest model), the target (the character) was not killed by the power; so no additional targets or hits occur from the power's effects.

Fresus: nothing in the power or focused witchfire rules tell us to alter the normal to-wound process: it is the majority Toughness(or gun's in an artillery unit)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Crownaxe: Focused Witchfires are different from regular witchfires in that they are only resolved against the model, not the unit. Spillover wounds have no where to go(think 8 wounds caused on a 3 1w models unit with no save; the 5 remaing wounds go nowhere)
