Right... this sounds idiotic but I want some clarification here.

I brought IA1 second edition about 6 months ago. Now I brought it simply for the ABG and Salamanders, however since some more recent releases I've realised I may need more up to date publications to run superheavies. However one certain individual keeps arguing I can simply use the IA1 versions despite them being around 75-85 points cheaper. He also argued I could use the alternative Hydra rules and points seeing 'You payed for the book'.

I understand the old FW escalation FAQ for using super-heavies did list some of the more up to date rules and IA1 2nd ed as rules sources. But it also states that the most up to date rules must be used, which would be escalation onwards (seeing they have the same rules, upgrade options and points for things like the Baneblade etc post escalation). So would it be right presuming all the rules and point costs for the superheavies in IA1 2nd ed are now outdated?

However would I also be correct thinking that AM 7th ed overrules other vehicles in IA2 2nd ed such as the Hydra?

There is no hard rule on which version of a unit you're suppose to use (you technically could use the 4ed IG codex if you wanted). Generally speaking though most everyone expects you to use the most recent version of a unit's rules and that would have you use the vanilla 40k version of all of those units over the IA1 versions

They are both in publication so like the SW FAQ saying you can use either version of the Iron Priest, officially you can use either version you wish of each superheavy as well
