So planning on doing a blackshield army that can also double up as a 40 Astra Charcharadon chapter. So mostly maurader squads with bolter, bolt pistol, ccw. Few assault squads and bikes. Most stuff as pariah gear. Was going to use the chymeriea that give rage, fear, fleet, and -1bs thing.

What I wanted to know was, has anybody had any success with the cortus class. Would fit nicely with my idea of a blackshield force keeping together it's stuff as much as possible. Plus it comes with fleet and the ability to gain rage. Is it worth the points and what do people use to represent it?

It's basically a Contemptor but cheaper, I've only used it once but it performed pretty well. Use with a pod for best value.

4000 pts
4700+ pts
2500 pts Hive Fleet Gungnir

It's cheapness is it's redeeming factor - it's the Cheap & Cheerful dreadnought, of you can afford to get a regular Contemptor then I'd recommend the upgrade (particularly if you have them going it alone), but as a cheap and fairly reliable weapons platform and tactical support model it does it's job admirably for the points.

I find it's tactical support role to work well. I have it wandering along with my footsloggers to absorb a fair deal of high strength and low AP fire that otherwise my Sergeants would have to take - they are basically the pseudo-Distraction Carnifex of 30k in my experience with them

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

From the rules, it looks like it's strength is as a bit of an assault-berserker type dreadnought. It hasn't got the regular contemptor's BS5, which is a big difference for many of the ranged upgrades.

However, with some CCWs, graviton (blast) weapons and a drop pods, plus either Rage or a boost to their charge range, they could smash through enemy vehicles before being inevitably taken down...

Yeah, I have a death company contemptor I built for 40k years ago that I've used as a contemptor cortus in a few games. It's never disappointed me. It's super cheap, against shots to the front armor it's just as durable as a regular contemptor, the speed boosts it gets are super helpful for getting it into hand to hand by turn 2, and once it's in hand to hand the one less WS and lack of 6++ are totally compensated for by the other bonuses it gets.
A twin close combat weapon normal contemptor is underwhelming for the point cost. A twin close combat cortus rules.
