The following is a summary of a 4th edition Kill Team game. Mistakes may have been had and feel free to point them out. This was our first game, so we were attempting to understand the rules as best as possible. The challengers were the valiant Blood Angels under the helm of my friend Samuel against the threat of my Tyranids. Onto the teams!

The Kill Team: Blood Angels Kill Team Hyperion
The Company Champion (Sarge)
The Apothecary
The Vanguard Veteran (Mr. Killjoy)
The Tactical Marines (3 Stooges)

The Xenos Threat: Tyranid Infestation
The Tentacled Aberration (Genestealer)
The Brute Squads (12 squads of 3x Termagants)
Boss Upgrade: Reinforcements

Summary: Mechanicus forces tracked a ship to a manufactorum on a small planetoid known as Furnace shortly before losing contact with the facility. A force was sent to investigate and transmissions report large numbers of Tyranids infesting it with a strange leader organism, as well as several capillary towers forming through the structure. Blood Angels were requested to assist, and sent a Kill Team to Furnace.

The Mission: Two objectives have been cited. Kill Team Hyperion must destroy the primary capillary tower in the center of the manufactorum before structural integrity damages the facility beyond repair. The second objective are a pair of smaller capillary towers in the northern and southern districts before they too become an issue. Once charges are set on the main capillary tower, the team will be evacuated and Mechanicus forces will move in to clean up the remains.

Deployment: The main capillary tower is set in the center of the 4x4 board. Only 2 entrances lead to it, one in the NW corner, and the other in the SW corner. The secondary objectives were in the NW and SW quarters. 6 squads with the boss deployed in the center area surrounding the tower while the remaining 6 squads were forced to deploy outside the southern wall. The Kill Team deployed on the NE corner edge.

Turn 1: Kill Team Hyperion moves up and spots the first brute squad in the entry way to the central area and opens fire. The Termagants dive for cover but one gets his head blown up enough by a lucky shot. The Termagants send a warning klaxon to the rest of the brood through the hivemind. Only 3 squads mobilize to the defense, one towards the opposite while the first line of sentries move out of cover and a second squad moves up to support them under the command of the aberrant genestealer.

Turn 2: Kill Team Hyperion moves up into rapid fire range and blew away the remaining sentries. A second klaxon goes out to the brood. With only 2 activations available, the choices are difficult. One brood activates in the center and under my opponents control, moves away from Hyperion entry point. The reinforcement squad was taken by me and moves up again, this time into spotting range. It becomes aware and opens fire. Fleshborers tear through the air and drop one of the tactical marines in the vanguard.

Turn 3: With pinpoint accuracy, Hyperion wipes out the second squad and prepares to move in on the primary capillary tower, sure of themselves after such easy kills. Behind them however, another squad of reinforce tsunami come off the northernew central table edge as my boss support finally activated. I get lucky with 6 activations and lose 1 squad to my opponents control, which moves away. The squad behind moves up as well as the other 3 loyal squads in the center. 1 squad in the south moves towards the southern exit. With wild fire, the apothecary falls to the rear squad as the other squads fail to do damage to the team. Assaults are declared and all squads except the boss squadmake it into combat, turning the entry way into a warzone. The assaults go as expected and only one more tactical falls to the horde. The vanguard veteran, armed with dual lightning claws, takes this time to shine and promptly wipes out over an entire squad by himself.

Turn 4: The Blood Angels rally to murder the remaining few creatures left but fail to do much more beyond killing 2 more.
Another squad comes up from behind and with 5 activations and so many klaxons on my side, the Tyranids push forward and the Genestealers brood as well as the new rear coming squad make it into combat. Hyperion is in dire straits as the Aberration pushes it's way into the fray. Rending claws tear into the vanguard veteran and he falls amongst the gore. The company champion fights the creatures pressing in from the rear and manages to take down several more creatures.

Turn 5: The genestealer takes down the lone remaining tactical and presses in. Furious with rage at their fallen, the champion finally slaughters his way through the throng and takes down the aberration and another beast. With nothing left beyond a pair of termagants left, the champion falls back to try and draw the creatures before making another pass to complete the objective.

Turn 6: The champion moves off and fires his bolt pistol, missing. Another squad comes off the table edge and with some quick firing, catches the champion and drops him.

The Aftermath: As the remaining few creatures settle down to devour the dead, the apothecary slowly rises and supports the vanguard veteran who is rising to his feet. One tactical marines rises and lifts his boltor to cover their escape. The termagants give chase and in their haste, the champion too eventually rises and makes his way to an extraction point. Two marines fail to rise, their ends finally met. Kill Team Hyperion limps back to the Mechanicus to lick their wounds and mourn their dead. As they await the next mission, a thunderhawk bearing the Blood Angels regalia berths on the Mechanicus vessel with a single passenger, a marine with a fiery temper and a heavy flamer to match.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Thanks. It was a lot of fun. I wish we had thought to take pictures, but it was after the fact that I decided to post that. The set up was crazy. After the first 2 turns, I was sure he would win. The objective was about 9 inches away from the entry point, but the reinforcement upgrade managed to stall him with just constant assaults since I could deploy them on the closest table edge.

Edit: My memory is horrible, as I forgot to list that he had a 4th tactical which survived, and he is swapping out for a assault marine. He corrected me at work today.

I vow to work on proper terrain for the next time so that we can do battle reports with pictures that won't look as embarrassing as what we we really using.
