I rarely ever use a drying retarder when airbrushing. Some thinners have drying retarder in them already, and so I just use those specific thinners if I need them.
For example, Gunze make "Mr Color Thinner" and "Mr Color Leveling Thinner". The levelling thinner has drying retarder in it already and I find it the perfect combination out of the bottle for Tamiya acrylics, Gunze acrylics and Gunze lacquers.
Humbrol acrylic paint is one that benefits from drying retarders, and Humbrol's own acrylic thinner comes with a healthy dose of drying retarder so you don't really need to add more.
I've never really felt the need to add drying retarder to Vallejo or GW paints, just thinning them with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner is fine.
The only paint I might consider adding drying retarder to is maybe Reaper MSP.
