hi folks
been doing some work on my inducted IG for my witch hunters and have finally made a start on my commander (well my second commander - im gonna order the FW one for my main commander!!!) and would like some input on his looks.
please bear in mind this is a test model before i actually start the proper conversion so the model is rough and has mould lines, gaps etc.
anyway this guy represents the force commander in carapace armour armed with power weapon and storm bolter:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v192/millest/Test%20models/
thats a link to my gallery as the pics are quite big!!!

at current he uses normal cadian arm with a FW power sword, resting on his shoulder, a mordheim hairy head and on the other side a cadian pad, a bionic arm from the marine command sprue and a marine commander storm bolter.
thus far the only improvements model wise i can think of are replacing the head with the bald head from the FW cadian vets and using yarricks storm bolter instead of the current marine one.
any other advice or any tips would be appreciated
cheers

Yeah, change the head. I hate that head.

Also, the storm bolter looks way too big. Yarrick's may help but what about an over-under version like the horus heresy era terminators?

The only example of an over-under that I have seen is WD 300 with the converted heresy era terminators.

BTW, love the commander body... that's the Kasrkin sergeant right? I might need a few of those pretty soon for my DH.

It was US WD300. I have a scan of the pic. Drop me an e-mail and i'll send it over as an attachment.

It's basically a regular bolter bulked up with plasticard and a drum mag added.

I'm not a fan of that head. I hate all the heads on the mordhiem ulrician sprue. Please switch it!

I agree on the stormbolter being too big. One thing you might want to consider for a really unique storm bolter is the old Yarrik stormbolter. It had a cool ork skeleton design on it and most players won't even recognise where it came from.

How hard was it to cut up that fig?  I have several, and wanted to do some conversions, but doing that while not destroying the detail would be nice.

Any description/tutorial on removing the heads, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks

as this was only a test model i just hacked it off with my yellow clippers, actually very easy to do as the metal is quite plyable - one tip is to not so much cut it off as to nibble it off if using cutters, in other word just make small cuts in to the metal, gives a better cut and less strain on the cutters.
for the second commander and some other sergs im doing i will be grinding/cutting it all off with my nice shiny new dremel once i figure out how to do this myself!

Millest, I agree with most everone it seems, the head just doesn't seem to fit the body and the storm bolter seems a bit large.

the head is not a bad idea, it depens on the general look of your army.

storm bolter was just a test to see if the weapon looked right.
im in 2 minds about the head, the force is meant to represent a small force of veteran guardsman seconded to the inquisition. now both the shaggy head and the shiny head (bald) could do this. shiny is extremly military and the shaggy looks hardened and grizzled. a very difficult choice. mind you at the moment im getting tempted by the shiny head as it gives me the excuse to model up some veterans with shotguns - that arent converted kasrkin - out of the left over resin bits, or failing that flogging them on ebay!
