I tend to disagree with this.
All of this is my opinion of course but this is my reasoning.
The big things to consider when moving from toughness 5 to toughness 6
Strength 4 guns wound half as much meaning the vast majority of infantry and turret guns won't hurt you badly or at all.
Strength 6 guns wound 25% less. Practically, this means you need an additional jetbike squad or additional riptide to kill your 3+ armor prince. Which is enormous as that is often the difference between surviving the turn in the open to assault and heroically getting spit-roasted by scatter lasers or whatever Tau shoot.
Strength 8 guns still wound on 2s
and Strength 10 will double you out. Which effectively means it does 4 wounds instead of 1 adding the additional toughness is like only taking 25% of the damage.
Compare that to the thirster who only improves against strength 6 and strength 8 guns. The prince really gets a lot out of it.
That's before even accounting for the 3+ save!
the one HUGE benefit that the armor gives that the prince doesn't use is the adamantiam will. That is incredibly good to prevent the thirster from getting shrieked or dominated or whatever other psychic nonsense you don't want to happen.
Especially as the thirster is often the only unit in the army without a psyker. He can really draw a lot of attention.
So in conclusion, the prince gets more out of the armor in my opinion, however it is still a great buy for both models and would almost always recommend.
