I hate to say it but I'm pretty much exclusively a collector/hobbyist and haven't played the game in years, although I do keep up with it just in case.

One thing that I can't seem to find rules on one way or the other is if a Combined Arms Detachment (giving you Objective Secured) is mutually exclusive with formations. Do you have to pick one or the other? If anyone knows if this is brought up in the BRB, I'd really appreciate it.

You can have as many Detachments in your army as you like. Formations are just a special type of Detachment, in that you still get the bonus Special Rules of a Formation even if you are otherwise Unbound.

Note, some Tournaments/FLGS may have house rules in place that limit the amount of detachments you may take.

Uhhh... Is this true? Im pretty sure I've been told that unbound removes any and all command benefits you could gain from any detachment.

Wow.

Thank you very much for pointing me to that.

They ARE mutually exclusive! That's good to hear.

No, they're not mutually exclusive - you can take an army that has a CAD as one detachment, and a formation as a second detachment. You just can't count models in the formation as part of the CAD. There are some detachments that are made up of groups of formations or models and formations, but the detachment will tell you which formations are allowed and/or required.
