Hi, pretty much totally new to 30k, bar a game or two where I used my 40k models to proxy vs a proper 30k army. I like the idea of using Skorr to pick a warlord trait off the strategic table. I'm thinking the one which gives you +1 to cover saves and move through cover (ruins) could combo well with army wide infiltrate. I'll probably go snipers with the vets.

Rite of war: Chosen Duty

HQ:

Autilion Skorr

Elites:

5 Legion Terminators W/1x Heavy Flamer & 4x Powerfists

Troops:

10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Heavy Bolters & Suspensor Web
10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Plasma Guns
10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Plasma Guns
10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Melta Guns
10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Melta Guns
10 Vet Legion Tactical Marines W/2x Melta Guns

Heavy Support:

7 Heavy Support Legionaires W/7x Multi-Meltas
6 Heavy Support Legionaires W/6x Lascannons

Keep in mind if you go sniper on the vets, those meltas wont be good against vehicles. No where in the rules does it state to ignore the Strength 4 against vehicles in the rules (like it states that if your to wound roll would be better than 4+ use that instead).

And that is also a lot of points to sink into the vets there, they are expensive, regular tactical blobs can still be useful at holding points and what not. I would look at running the melta dudes as a support squad and the left over marines as a plain tactical squad.

Oh and the beautiful thing about skorr is that he can pick from that strategic trait table, you can give 3 units infiltrate with that which could quite possibly free up your mutable tactic to something else (scout maybe?), couple that with the extra USR veterans get and you can stack 3 extra USR's onto the vets.

Are you sure about that? You arent rolling to wound with a melta gun against a vehicle, you are rolling vs AV. Strength should still apply.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Yes,
If you were rolling to wound it'd be fine, it is the fact that you are rolling against AV:

"Against vehicle, shooting attacks from weapons and models with the Sniper special rule count as Strength 4" (40k 7th edition rulebook. Sniper in the special rules section). So unless i missed an FAQ where this was fixed for 30k, it applies....

What's your plan to protect Skorr? With Chosen Duty you've really got to keep him safe, as there's a 3vp shift riding on whether he survives the game or not...

Hi, thanks for feedback! Good catch on the sniper and vets, I would have thought you can decide whether to use the sniper rule or not, but I'm not sure and not near a rule book. If they can't, then ill go another vet trait of course for the plasma and melta squads!

I went with vets as they seem close enough to their 40k equivalent and I thought it would be cool to be stacking special rules, between AL tactics, vet traits and Skorr choosing his warlord trait.

I honestly did not put much thought into where I hide Skorr, I guess him living is pretty important alright! Camping out with a vet plasma squad seems the obvious route or the lascannon squad in the backfield.

Do I have enough warm bodies for 30k? From the limited games I've played of it, stuff dies pretty quickly!

You could pick up a bastion and hide him in there with a unit fo missle launchers or lascannons

FW clarified that if you do not need to use the sniper rule, for example, a melta gun vs a tank, then you ignore the sniper rule. It was a topic of discussion on another forum. Another comment was something along the lines of slapping someone who made you use a str 4 meltagun against a vehicle and not against a person.

That makes sense, I doubt anyone I know would argue otherwise, but I guess important to know if going to an event or something.

So is sniper just all round the best for vets then? Seems like it.

Usually. They still get tank hunter as an option right? That might be a decent specialized option with melta guns. Melta bombs too if you aren't using the silly draft faq.

fair enough - just found it odd FW took the time to specify the wound portion and not the AV portion.

Yup, vets get tank hunter esque, their vet skills are pretty cool actually from a list building perspective. Sniper does seem overall best, but I can see some use in the others, bar the monster hunter esque one.
