I've never played 40k or any associated game besides the Death Angel card game (which is pretty good, RIP), but I've always thought the theme and lore were quite interesting. I used to collect some Warhammer back when I was a kid (15+ years ago) and just got back into painting miniatures this spring.

When I saw the new Eldrad I just had to get it and paint it. I think it's outright my first Sci-Fi mini but I could be misremembering. I went for a fairly by-the-book approach to the paint scheme albeit stopping well short of the official version in terms of detail. I'm pleased with the outcome and think it's my best job yet but would really appreciate any comments or suggestions for future efforts:

I'm also interested in trying another 40k mini with similar 'impact' soon, if anyone can recommend anything that's as impressive and as fun to paint as this one. Considering making a navigator conversion as I like how they reference Dune and their position in the 40k universe is kind of interesting.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to Dakka.

Very nice work there. If you just want to paint something that looks cool, GW has been cranking out a lot of fun stuff lately. It’s just a mater of finding something that fits your mood/style.

If you want to look into getting into the game side, you might want to focus on other ELdar units, either the normal craftworld, or the Dark Eldar or harlequins.

Thanks. Just the minis for now I think. There are so many kinds of games I wish GW would make, but 40k and even Kill Team just aren't my thing. In terms of what to get next, I hesitate to say I actually had kind of an easy time painting this one because the detail was just so well defined. I'm basically up for something else like that. Considering the generic terminator librarian.

Cracking stuff!

There are a bunch of great 40k character models, but one of the best has to be Commissar Yarrick, one of the nicest, most characterful minis I've ever painted and an iconic part of 40k history.

Another few pretty models you may want to try or at least have a look at:

Blood Angels Chaplain with Jump Pack (aka Daenor)

Necron Overlord

The really crisp details are generally plastic kits. Avoid the resin ones for character models unless you are really, really into that figure.

Thaks That Yarrick model is cool and I remember my brother had the old version - had more of a crab type hand if I remember correctly? But I think I'll probably still ick to plastic. I don't have any of the necessary tools to clean up a resin model properly.

I do really like that jump pack chaplain so he's definitely a possible future project. I also really like the look of the two big Tech-priest dudes. And the genestealer broodlord and magus...
