Can something be a part of 2 formations at the same time? Let's say you want a battle demi-company and a skyhammer orbital strike force. Can the tacticals/land speeders from the SOSF be included in the BDC?

No, something can only be a part of one detachment or another, never multiple. The only sort-of exception are the mega-formations like a Galdius Strike Force, where a model is a part of the Gladius Strike Force AND a part of whatever formation it's in.

I may not be 100% sure, but I'm pretty confident that no, they can't

Only if the Formation includes the other Formation in its list. Otherwise, per the Detachments rules"no unit can belong to more than one Detachment." And Formations are still detachments.

I'll just point out that the Gladius Strike Force, the Necron Decurion and the like are Detachments, not Formations.

True. And there are some Formations in documents produced before the Necron codex which include 2 or more Formations. Still the same standard applies between Command Benefit Detachments and Formations in this case. The rules for these detachments which include Formations usually come with rules that state that the units are part of both detachments and benefit from both.

The only example of a 'Formation of Formations' that come to mind is 'The Red Onslaught' formation from the updated Crimson Slaughter supplement.

The Living Tide is composed of 7 Tyranid Formations. At a minimum you need 3090 points (pre-optional upgrades).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

That explains why it didn't come to mind...

Campaign: Baal has a few of them. At least one for Blood Angels and one for Necrons.

There there was one that combined a Formation from Imperial Knights, Mechanicum and Skitarii, each.

There are multiple tau superformations as well. If you want to cause an argument, ask a tau player how a buffmander works in a Hunter Cadre or why Target Locks stop working in them too. . .
