Of all the complaints that get made about Eldar the Crimson death formation doesn't get mentioned a lot. Is this formation considered to be on a lesser power scale compared to things like windriders, wraithknights and aspect hosts?

To the best of my knowledge, it's pretty much the best way for eldar to bring flyers

For Khaela Mensha Khaine
For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

On a friendly level, how many flyers do you need in a list? On a competitive level, sure it’s nice, but it’s still just 3 AV10 flyers.

I love my crimson hunter. It’s pure sex and grace on the wing. It is, however, a huge chunk of points for something that can be brought down with harsh language. And 3 of them is just a massive points sink. And being flyers, they start off the table, so have less time to get their points back. Plus they don’t score.

They also suffer the same problem that 85% of the Eldar codex does: they are not horribly broken.

If you are playing to win, you will bring other stuff. If you are playing casual, you don’t need 3. If you want a little AA, you would be better off bringing a minimal CAD. You can even bring an autach for the reserve manipulation.

I have 3 in my army, and they only sometimes prove useful. I would definitely not take them in a competitive atmosphere though. Fun to use... but huge points sink spent better elsewhere.
