So I'm getting all my supplies together, just bought some W&N S7 brushes. I plan on using these brushes for just about everything, but what brushes should I use for tasks like basecoating models, both large and small, and also drybrushing? For these tasks is it okay to go grab some brushes from Michaels or a craft store and use?

I use GW brushes for most of the day to day basic stuff and only bother unsheathing the Series 7 for special tasks. That said if you're constantly working with super fine details or need high brush control, use the Series 7 ones.

Despite all the hate they get, GW brushes are quite serviceable, and most of their bad rap comes from people who don't know how to take care of their brushes. A series 7 brush will still get ruined really fast if not properly maintained!

Heckyeah. Natural whatever from Michael's for washes, drybrushing, and sometimes basecoating. Only use the hobby brushes for fine details.

Also, try these next time you're on Amazon. 3 for $2. Worth a shot. I also use the on metallics, which you're not supposed to use your best brushes with (or use a separate set of brushes for).: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007BLN17K/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3KTAZR4CEZKXN
