I have the models to make it (And then some) and since I'll be assembling them anyway, I was heavily considering taking them along side my Skitarii detachment. I figure the formation is a fitting decapitator for a lot of problems my army could face. Specifically Superheavies and the like. The unit can just drop down with no fear of scattering and tackle pretty much any threat with their Torsion Cannons, it would seem.

I suppose the formation's biggest flaw is to get that coveted 'no scatter DS', the target would have to be close enough to an objective marker to get effective placement. Though with 6 objectives each game, it seems the intended targets would be relatively close to one at some point. Also, the units that come in (Dominus, in particular) become sitting ducks, depending on the situation. The third flaw I see is...well...these aren't Grav Cannons that are often pushing the Destroyers over the Breachers. But on paper, the Torsion Cannons don't seem all that terrible, just suffering low rate of fire, but making up for it with multi wounds/hp stripping (So, I suppose a bit less reliable as well).

So basically, the question is: If people have used this formation prior, what are their thoughts on it?

Edit: Also, the extra wounds caused by this weapon would bleed over to the rest of the unit like normal, would it not? So if you fired a Torsion shot into a group of Marines, they can't save the wound, you roll a D3 and let's say get 2 wounds, you'd pop 2 Marines, yes?

I have used the formation once, and they did kill an Imperial Knight the turn they came down with the help of the re-roll shooting Canticle of the Omnissiah. Granted I think I got lucky with my hit rolls but teleporting in the back field with those heavy Arc Rifles is cool.

That's the problem with the formation though, it's gimmicky. Torsion cannons are gak, please for the love of the Omnissiah do not bring them. Think about it, single shot on a 4+ to hit. Single shot weapons are horrible even if they cause D3 wounds. IIRC the Torsion Cannon wounds do not spill over. Don't take my word for it though.

That leaves the Arc rifles. Biggest problem with them is when your enemy brings no vehicles. No vehicles, no decent targets.

I wouldn't bring it any time other than if I knew I was playing a large game 2500 points or above, and I knew my opponent would be bringing vehicles.

Don't forget their Hydraulic Claws.
Dealing with Dark Angels 2+ jink shenanigans? Can't jink something that's clamped to the back of your skimmer. Best use I've made of them, at least.

And on Arc Rifles over Torsion Cannons:
Arc Rifles are much more reliable, and S6 isn't something to scoff at when turned against infrantry, but if you like going big, or going home, use Torsion Cannons. High risk - High reward.
But typically, you'd have Vanguard to dish out the damage against large non-vehicles, keeping the Destroyers to a more dedicated anti-vehicle role with the Arc Rifles. Quite rare you can properly justify taking the Torsion Cannons.

The way I see it, these guys are most effective in large, multi-man team Apoc games. Drop them in front of a Baneblade line, and watch the enemy sweat over having to use their heavy cannons to pop the Kataphrons, or keep focusing down a titan.

Good points made. I guess the Ork in me still says 'go big or go home' XD So I was drawn to the Torsion Cannons. So it seems 'bring all the arc rifles' seems to be the rule of thumb, both on Vanguard and anything else that can bring em XD

Sadly my thought is that if it were Destroyers and not Breachers, I'd take it in a heartbeat. As is, the guns on the Breachers are just too 'meh' for it to really be worth it in a TAC list.

Destroyers are so much better than Breachers.

Good Cult Mechanicus formations: Cohort Cybernetica, Elimination Maniple. Both need Imperial Allies to really be effective.
