I've been out of the game for a year and a half. Found a good semi local group to play wit, but I am new the the whole formation thing.

So here is the question...

In an Emperors Fist Armored Company it lists a Tank Commander. Do I still need the 2nd LRBT with him, so a total of 5 tanks in the formation?

Yes, the Empress Fist Armoured Company consists of a Tank Commander squadron and 3 Leman Russ Squadrons. So that would be 5 leman russ' as a base.
If I recall correctly the Steel Host formation consists of a single Leman Russ Tank Commander tank, 3 Leman russ Squadrons, and a Hydra squadron, though.

From the DarFtAQ:

Q: When a Formation like the Steel Host includes a Tank Commander, is that the Tank Commander in a single tank, or a full squadron – i.e. the Tank Commander HQ choice from Codex: Astra Militarum?
A: It’s the Tank Commander entry from the codex, that is, a Tank Commander and 1-2 other Leman Russ tanks, which form a single squadron.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I would point out that if you're going FULL TANK that you can take 1+ Tank Commanders in a cadian battle group, and nothing else.

Means you can spread the BS4 around a bit, without having to stay in close formation, i.e. assault.

The Emprah's Fist is *ok* but you really have to capitalise on it for it to pay off; i.e. 6 punishers. Even then The Vulture gunship is just better.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

whenever a formation requires a unit, it's asking for the 'codex choice' - the force org slot unit called "tank commander", not the individual model, unless specified otherwise. So you have to follow all the normal rules for selecting one - including, in this case, a second tank.

The individual model is also called 'Tank Commander'.

I was just looking over it, you have to take a Lord Commissar or CCS for each 3 that you would take.

No, its just an enginseer, unless you are taking the Cadian Battle Group, than yes, you have to have an HQ besides the Tank Company. So theoretically its 7 tanks.

The Cadian Battle Group Command also allows Tank Commanders.

So you could make a Cadian Battlegroup consisting entirely of Command Tank Commanders, or Command Tank Commanders and Emperor's Fist Armoured Companies.

The draft is not official...yet up until the it is official the steel host consists of 1 command tank and 3 Leman russ squadrons.

The Cadian Battle Group Command consists of 1 CCS OR 1 Tank Commander (consisting of the cammnder's tank and 1-2 other Leman Russes)
And 0-1 Lord commissars.

The Cadian Battle Group can have as many Battle Group Commands as you want, so you could have 5 groups with 10+ tanks all by themselves. But you would miss out on the command benefits of the Armoured Company.

Its official if your group deems it such for their games.

Wrong, until the draft is official all formations are comprised of army list entries.

Because that is what the actual rules for formations say.

So no matter whether you are using the draft FAQs or not the emprahs fist is 5 russes at minimum.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Wow....never realized this. You could have a whole army of Command Squads...or Lord Commisars running around.

with just CCS you can have 40 melta guns in 1000 pts

With orders for each unit.
