Hey guys, my buddy has been experimenting with using Corran Horn in lists and was wondering how it is you guys run him, and what you run him with.

Here is what my buddy and I came up with for Corran, and he has been toying with the idea of running Dash with him.

Corran Horn:
-Hull Upgrade (to fill last couple of points)
-Lone Wolf
-Fire Control System
-R7 Astromech

Please let me know what you would change and why, I don't play a lot of Rebels. Thank you.

With Corran you have two choices: push the limit and engine upgrade or veteran instincts. R2-D2 and fire control system are mandatory with either choice. The only thing up for debate is whether you want PS 10 at 42 points or better action economy at 48 points. The reason there are so few choices is that all of the upgrades are so powerful. R2-D2 has massive synergy with 3 agility + evade and is almost guaranteed to provide more than 4 points worth of value. FCS has massive synergy with the double tap ability (on top of being a very powerful upgrade in general). PTL gives you a free action every turn when you're already doing green maneuvers for R2-D2, while engine upgrade lets you keep your maneuverability despite the limited dial. Veteran instincts lets you out-PS virtually every ship in the game while trimming 6 points (since EU isn't quite as mandatory) off Corran's cost, which is often necessary to make the rest of your list fit. Other upgrades just can't compete with that level of power.

As for how to play Corran: fly in, kill something with the double tap, fly away to regen shields while coming in behind anything that tries to follow Corran and getting unopposed shots with the rest of your list.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

if you're using him with Dash, I'd definitely go with the Engine Upgrade version.

Corran desperately needs the chance to run like smoke and oakum after his first double-tap pass - but since Dash tends to play keep-away and pelt people at range 3, whilst a very effective ship he's not good at forcing people to stop chasing Corran - meaning Corran really, really wants access to boost to get the hell away from the scrum.

If he's supporting a mob of normal fighters (a couple of aces or a trio of more generic ships) you can create a scrum that'll stop people chasing corran and give him a chance to either break off more slowly, or break off straight and then slow down to use R2-D2.

Of course, the other thought is that a Veteran Instincts version is a lot more tolerant of stress and stress-based shennanigans, which with recent releases Latts Razzi and (especially!) Black Market Slicer Tools is no small thing to consider.

Lone Wolf is an exceptionally powerful card - there are few cards anywhere giving a defensive reroll, let alone one giving you an offensive boost at the same time - but it doesn't work with a Corran/Dash too well because:

(a) with two expensive ships you'll have trouble keeping them apart during the fight (although Dash does better than most thanks to his cannon turret)

(b) You've already got offensive rerolls from the fire control system, so you're wasting that part of the ability much of the time.

The skimpy version of Corran (with VI) dovetails quite nicely into the standard Super Dash build...

But with the coming of Smuggling Compartment, is there something that could change in that build too? Engine Upgrade is very good for Dash, but does anything else even come close in utility?

I'm not sure. Dash - more than anything else - needs the ability to run the hell away from enemies so he can pelt them with range 3 heavy laser cannon bolts.

Burnout SLAM, maybe, but I can't see a one-use SLAM being worth not having the once-per-turn boost. You can get it, but only at the expense of giving up a crew slot for Leebo.

Glitterstim.....there is the Dengar-esque comination of Glitterstim, Countermeasures and Lone Wolf, but I'm not sure how good that is in practice. For Dengar, it works with his double-tap ability and Zuckuss crew card - neither of which the Rebels have an analogue to; I can't really see a way to build Dash (probably Leebo?) as a head-to-head brawler.

Black Market Slicer or Feedback Array might be a good one. Dash's achilles heel is generally the PS8+ ace in a TIE Advanced Prototype or TIE Interceptor who can boost/barrel roll/etc and keep themselves in his blind spot. Having a no-defence-dice-allowed weapon to hit back at them closes said blind spot for a very low outlay of points.

It also allows enough space for either countermeasures or experimental interface, which could be rather nice (especially to trigger Slicer Tools).

I'd be ready to trade 3 healths for a dead Soontir Fel, via Feedback Array. I think it at least bears testing out.

For my Dash I'm considering trading the Engine Upgrade, for Rigged Cargo Chute and Countermeasures. Might not be up to much, but I reckon there's some mileage in it

The best version of Super Dash doesn't leave you enough points to put EU on Corran.

Corran with VI, R2-D2, and FCS is still pretty awesome and you don't have to gimp Dash to get him.
