Subject: Starting Death - Which box?

Hello all,
I'm thinking of buying into the Death Army. I currently have Destruction and want a second army. I like the look of death, and not that many people seems to play them (looking at season of war) which also attracts me.
I was going to start Fyreslayers, but it is just too damn expensive without a Start Collecting! Box, so i'll hold on with them until they release such a box.
So, if going Death i have 3 boxes to choose from:
- Malignents
- Skeleton Horde
- Flesh-eaters
I don't really like the looks that much of the malignant set. So i think i'm down to Skeleton Horde or Flesh-eaters. Which one would you recommend? I'm personally a little bummed that the Skeleton box only has 10 skeletons. Hardly a horde. I would prefer like 20 skeletons and then no cavalry. I don't like the looks of those horses xD
Also, any rumors or anything on when we might see new Death models? I feel they are the allegiance thats been kinda "left behind". Only new addition was Flesh-eaters and that didn't even bring a whole lot to the table.
Thanks in advacne.

I started out with the big flesh eaters box. Very solid for starting at New army and giving you lots of options for different army builds. I was thinking of getting the skeleton horde as the next thing. But to be honost I think all of the 4 different boxes are great ways to start af death army.
Good luck

Buy the box you like most.
Fleash Eaters works best as a whole sub-faction without much (or nothing) from the outside.
If you want to build a general death army, I think the Skeleton Horde is better. Build the Mortarch you like most, skeletons as battleline and if you don't like Black Knights, build Wraith Knights. Expand from there.

The big Flesh Eater's box (King Vlagorescu's Ghoulish Host) is the best place from a monetary and usable list standpoint. That's enough to get you started with options at 1000 (it's actually 1200 at the cheapest, so you have variety with the list some or can build the Horrors/Flayers into Heroes) and all works together to make a cohesive army. Flesh Eaters want to be played as a single faction and not as part of mixed Death - their abilities to bring back units is their strongest point and you'll want to mix units with Heroes to make that work. Expanding the army is then as easy as buying a FEC Get Started or just the units you want (though you'll need at least one more box of Ghouls for Battleline).
If you want to do mixed Death, you should figure out what kind of army you want to play. If you want ranks of dudes and to mob the enemy, going for one or two of the Skeleton Horde boxes is a good start, and then more skeletons. Two might be a bit much, as running two Mortarchs is pretty unlikely, though if you want to it's a much cheaper way to get them.
I don't really see the appeal of the Malignants box unless you really want a Mortis Engine/Coven Throne, but I don't think they're that good, personally.

Thanks for the answer. I actually kinda like the idea of going skeleton / zombies stuff. But also like the flesh-eaters (some of the models). So i think i wanna go mixed death actually. I'm just a little concerned, seeing as they haven't really been updated and still come on square bases. Plus they don't have a battletome so no real lore or place for them yet :/ kinda sad about this.

First, Welcome to Dakka!
I've heard rumors about a new death Battletome or some such coming soon (this month!) so keep your ear to the floor (don't quote me on this however)
I got the big box (King sonthing whatever's ghoulish host) and it worked really well, its quite a good deal however I found myself unhappy with the FEC (I don't like the models very much, the lore is awesome however!), I can't really speak about Getting started however because I kinda traded for my entire army so it was easy for me
But maybe go with the SC! Skeleton Horde and then maybe buy a few skellies to fill those dudes out a bit more, It's very difficult to actually pile the SC! for death together because all of them come with a big monster thing of some sort (mortarch, dragon, Mortis engine)
I would actually go FEC if that fits your fancy, but if not, and you prefer the idea of hordes go for the Skeleton horde and flesh it out from there.
I hoped that helped at least a little bit!

Yeah man, until then however maybe grab up some skellies to get a head start on your upcoming backlog of unpainted hordes!

Well, I'm not a Death player but this quote from the tropes wiki alone has me heavily leaning towards expanding my collecting towards the ghouls.
Took a Level in Badass: The Ghouls of Warhammer were little more than vermin, a weak and easily overcome foe that was used whenever the writers needed something for the characters to utterly crush and not make any of the established factions look weak. And now in Age of Sigmar they have become badass armies of flesh eating abominations that roam the Mortal Realms, devouring everything in their path. They've bested armies of the Fyreslayer Duardin, the Bloodbringers of Khorne and even the Stormcast Eternals. Nagash, the God of Death himself, is angry that he cannot control them, since technically they aren't dead. The Ghoul Kings themselves can tame Zombie Dragons and ride them into battle, and even have Vargheists (beastial Vampires) in their service. Even their origins are a badass improvement over simply being inbred vermin, they are now the people who survived the Age of Chaos outside of Azyrheim and resorted to cannibalism to survive.
