There are really good Limo models by 3rd party companies like wargame exclusives out there and I think the retro funky rogue trader look, looks cooler than the bulky Goliath models by GW. I plan to buy bitz from the actual goliath kit and put on the correct weapons on the top.

I'm just worried about nerd-rage from any opponents I can claiming it is modeling for advantage or tournaments disqualifying me for using non-official models. Will people flip out and tell me I can't use them and refuse to play? Will I get kicked out of stores?

Rule of Cool.
Make it part of the army's theme, and you can get away with lots of stuff like this.

As long as you don't model for advantage, using a model much smaller for instance, go for it.
We can't speak for your locals, but if it makes the army look better, and doesn't count as cheating, I'd play against it.

I'm not modelling for advantage but the limo profile is obviously lower than the Goliath truck. As seen here: http://cold-moon.com/40k/Miniatures/GSCult/CultLimoBuilt.jpg

Will some people flip out over it?

Alright, hear me out.... Lowrider Limo with it's pneumatic suspension extended all the way up. No? Fine.

Okay seriously though I personally believe that 40k is a beer & pretzels game and won't mind you using a lower model (so long as you don't get anal about cover, but you seem like a nice guy). But there are definitely people who would, so I'd recommend maybe putting it on a taller decorative base to bring it up to a similar height.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Anyone gives you flack for fielding a limo in a GSC army, just give them a look and tell them to learn their history.

Kid these days, no respect for the old days...

I'm planning on doing that myself. I'm looking for base models to start my conversions off of though. Not a huge fan of those kits posted above.

Just model it on cut-down flying stands if the height causes whining. Because hover limo > wheeled limo, right?

Or just play less jerky people.

As long at you only use it as one type of Goliath and explain it's a "count as" to your opponent you shouldn't have a problem unless you're playing "that guy"

You may have some issues if you play in a GW store as it won;t be a GW kit at heart but that depends on the store staff/

Bring it up to a similar height would be hard and look not as good... I mean the Limo is already LONGER than the Goliath Truck anyway so am I supposed to shorten it too?

It's warhammer, nerd rage is unavoidable. However, the key to an average player being ok with "counts as" is consistency. Use only limos to represent the trucks and you should be fine. If you use some trucks and some limos people are less likely to be fine.

I'd be fine with it.

If someone wasn't, you could make a monster truck conversion kit for it.

He should go with this instead:

As for the OP, I would have no problem as long as it's roughly the same dimensions. I know the truck is more boxy while the limo is more of a chocolate bar, but I mean in terms of volume rather than exact dimensions (so maybe if it's about as long as the Raider).

Just want to point out that the Chimera is available too, and makes a lot of sense. Can still hold the Primarch and Purestrains, throw in a turret minigun type deal, Bolter in the grill, lasgun arrays are out the windows. I'll be running them there instead of as Goliaths, that's for sure.

Yeah, try to make it as close to the same size as you can and you'll probably be fine. As for painting these guys, how do you feel about Tuxedo Stealers?

That’s a sound policy. I think whenever I see someone playing a GSC army, and they put one of the new things on the table I’ll ask “No limos?” and give them a little good natured flack for the cheesy counts-as truck they bought from GW.

I'll pitch in for it as well. 40k is a beer and pretzel game where terms are agreed upon before the start of each game. Most people probably won't care unless they are super competitive. The real question you need to ask is how your sculpting skills are, because you need some Tommy gun toting cultists popping out of that baby.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

While I'm a big lore fan, I can understand people having consternation with "oh well my Limo is going to shoot its twin-linked autocannons at your..." ---- if the Limo isn't modeled with any of the weapon options from the Goliath.

If modeled correctly I'm all for it, but I normally don't love the idea of magical invisible weaponry - particularly if you're gaming with someone you don't know very well.

Want an easy way to make both parties happy if you are playing someone who objects? With the sprues make an outline of the shape of the actual height and width/length of the Goliath. So use your mini but when something "Line of Site" question pops up just but the frame over your limo. If you can see the frame then you can see the limo.

This way there is no advantage and you can still use your mini and everything should be fine.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
