EDIT: Decided to swap out the Wyvern for 2 Land Speeder Storms, I think getting the Scouts where I need them when I need them is more important since they're coordinating the Vanguards. However, this does bring the Raven Guard detachment up to 355 points, so they'd better do some serious work. Anyway I can start with this and as I go up in points experiment with different ratios of Scouts to Vanguards.
This is my third list posted here in a week, I hope that's ok and doesn't break any spamming rules. This one is because I've discovered that apparently Formations can count as Detachments, which sounds great because it means I can take a Shadowstrike Kill Team without needing a Demi-Company with them. With that in mind, I have an idea for a combined Raven Guard and Astra Militarum (and Inquisition) 1000pts army which I hope will be a lot of fun to play and decently competitive too.
Shadowstrike Kill Team
Scout squad with Land Speeder Storm
95pts
Scout squad with Land Speeder Storm
95pts
Vanguard Veteran Squad with Jump Packs; Sergeant with pair of Lightning Claws and Melta Bombs, 2 with Storm Shields, 2 with pairs of Lightning Claws
165pts
Inquisitorial Detachment
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor with Mastery Level 1
55pts
Allied Astra Militarum Detachment
HQ
Tank Commander in LR Vanquisher with lascannon
Leman Russ Demolisher
345pts
Troops
PCS with grenade launcher
Guard Squad with autocannon
Guard Squad with autocannon
30 Conscripts
245pts
Total 1000pts
The Raven Guard units are the ones I'll send forward for objective-grabbing. I hope 3 of them is enough, but none have Objective Secured and the scouts may prove very easy to shoot off the table (conscripts could also move up the board, just a little more slowly). Vanguards can come in on-demand thanks to the Formation, so I'll use them as my ace in the hole against any troublesome MEQs. The Inquisitor joins the Conscripts to make them Stubborn and gives Divination to whoever needs it - 30 Conscripts with FRFSRF and Divination could be quite nasty. The Russes will have to take out any TEQs because the Vanguards need to stay the hell away from them, and are also my best bet against heavy vehicles - but 2 Russes at 1000pts should be enough right? Maybe I could consider dropping some of the platoon's special weapons to give the Vanquisher some sponsons, but that seems like too many points in one vehicle. Alternatively I could add some plasma guns.
Is this list good? Is it better than my other two? How could it be improved?
