My 12 y/o and I decided to build an army together and this is what we have so far:
Starter set which includes Ethereal on hover drone, Crisis Squad (3 Bodyguard) and 10 Fire Warriors (Strike) and 5 drones
We also bought a Stealth Team (3), a Devilfish and 16 Pathfinders
Devilfish will most likely have the Strike Team and Pathfinders which we will split into 2 squads of 8 taking 2-3 Rail Guns
I know we can war-gear these up to 750+
What would be the next tactical unit(s)? I was leaning toward Broadside or another FW Squad. Would rather keep Tau "shooty" than CC.
For flexibility 1000pt would be the top off
Thanks

Broadsides would be the next logical step, that or tetras (from forgeworld) they are a great source of markerlights which the broadsides will benefit from greatly, equip the Broadsides with the missile pods and SMS and watch as they remove units.
there is no way shape or form that tau are in any way CC so you have no worry with that haha.

I would take another Strike team first, followed by a Crisis Suit Commander. Then I would get Broadsides or a Riptide.

I would highly recommend a hammerhead gunship. It's railgun has the strength to punch anything out. It has higher ballistic skill than most other things and it can be upgraded with a special commander that makes it even better. You can give it a smart missile system for free and it has pretty good armor. PLUS! To save you money you only have to buy one model rather than a squad of braodsides or the expensive riptide (riptide is solid though). The hammerhead is just a good, solid, hard-hitting tank. I use one whenever I play Tau and I never regret taking it. Automatically Appended Next Post: ALSO: If you get the hammerhead kit it comes with the parts to make a "skyray" missile ship. Don't glue down the railgun on your hammerhead and you can swap it out from game to game!

Awesome tips - thanks!
What I meant by CC was that I didn't want Kroot, etc.
I like the Hammerhead/ one model plan.
Thank you again. I will post full list soon...
