Hello all,

I've been painting up my EC, and I realized that I have no clue what to put on the right shoulderpad. I use sculpted pads with the legion marking on the left shoulder, and all the artwork from FW I've seen has a roman numeral three on the right shoulder pad. Do people use waterslides for that, or do you free hand?

Also, how do people designate squads? I've seen the FW transfer sheet, and while spendy, I figure I can use III's on the tacticals, and then eagles on assault, aquillas on elites, and the laurels on HQ.

How do you all do it?

It really depends on your personal preference. I spend a lot of time going over the reference pictures in the black books for my Imperial Fists.
I usually use squad marks( tactical arrows etc) and/or a legion number on the right pad. And Squad numbers on knee pads and Boarding Shields

Honestly the FW transfer sheets are more than worth it as well, they're fething gorgeous.

I go for squad markings on most marines but I'll normally use a legion pad or a transfer for personal heraldry on characters. Basically I'm just parroting what Angelos said.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I go for the legion emblem OR numeral on the left pad (headcanon: n00bs who haven't earn't the full emblem get the number), with 'standard' squad markings on the right (Betrayal at Calth leftovers ftw), with two-digit squad numbers in the corner of the pad using the three-digit numbers from the Cadian sprue. I'm also debating adding a roman numeral somewhere (knee?) to denote the Millenial.

Canonically the FW art all goes with the III & emblem, but the FW minis for the Isstvan V display have a lot of 'codex' tactical markings in gold.
