I could have bet the farm that objective markers were considered impassable terrain, but I can't find the rule in the book or in the FAQ. Am I losing my mind? I swore this was a thing.

Can someone help straighten me out here? Thank you.

Nah.....the objective its just a marker for a small piece of non terrain such as a wepon stash/comms array/small statue.
Chill and be happy.

Yeah,markers aren't terrain.... they're just markers.

Some tournaments have house rules that treat objectives as impassable terrain, but I don't think the core rules ever have.

This.

Also that since markers are not listed as terrain you could back right on top of one if you wish with a landraider or a monolith if you wanted. Unless I am missing something.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Here to beat a dead horse, but yeah objective markers are just arbitrary points on the map you have to hold. They're not terrain unless agreed upon by you and your opponent for the sake of holding onto some piece of terrain or model, but by default you can walk on top of them. Also, most players play it where the objective marker has an infinite height so verticality of where the objective is doesn't matter.

Can I actually Infiltrate something big (say, a Tyranid Sporocyst) on top of an objective marker?

If you've built a physical thing, it makes sense to count it as a physical thing, to stop shenanigans, model balancing and silliness.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
