Subject: Salamader Test (1000pts) Ghekkos and a Monster

So, I'm going to be playing a couple of 1000 point games next month, if everything goes according to plan, and I want to work on my salamanders. Now, back when they were lizardmen, I got a lot of skinks. Not because they were good or bad, but because I just really like skinks. And I still want to make a list based around them, plus some regular salamanders as my anvil. Here's how it stands so far:
-Salamander Prime Horde - Anvil?
- Ghekko Hunters Troop
- Ghekko Hunters Troop - Chaff/forward units
- Ghekko Hunters Troop
-Anklydon (With firbolt? Not sure) -Hammer?
-Herald
-Ghekko Warriors Regiment
- Herald
So, that's 1000 points. I know it needs work. I still struggle with how to use leaders and items, I'm sure it's obvious that there are no items in this list. I really like hunters, but I've got to figure out how best to use them.
Thoughts? Did I miss/break any rules about army composition?

It's a little light for my taste, but you say you like Skinks/Gekko. Do you have something you can use as a Ghekkotah Skylord? The added mobility and charge range might help. When points allow I like having a roving troubleshooter to shore up holes or hit flanks. Or head-hunt tooled-up Independent characters.
My only problem with Gekkos is De 3+. De 3+ troops as large part of an army is too vunerable. Tried Trident Realms Naiads who are De 3+ with Regen 4+. They all failed the Nerve Tests so Regen 4 and Ensnare were worthless. Meanwhile the Placoderms at De 6+ stayed the whole game and killed two expensive units.
Still, let us know if you can win with a Gekko heavy army. As I have a Lizardman army and 80 some Skinks, that would be good news. The current 1000pt Salamder army I drew up is this:
Salamander Unblooded
20 fig regt.
20 fig regt.
Tyrants
3 fig Regt.
Kaisenor Lancers
10 fig Regt.
Fire Drake
Herald w/ Healing Charm
Ghekkotah Skylord with Ensorcelled Armor.
I've been facing a shooty Abyssal army so I need a counter to the Effreets, thus the Fire Drake and Skylord.

Hm, I don't have anything like a skylord right now. Might be able to whip something up though. I definitely am lacking in mobility there. (The nice thing is that there's a store nearby that has all these neat little dinosaur figures that are very well made and just about the right size)
I'll be playing my friend's KoM army, but I don't know much about what it's going to look like yet. I might try putting a small report here after we play, show how it goes down.

That's what I did as well. I have a proper Stegadon now, but I started with two Triceratops and two Dimtridons ( SP) purchased from a science store. The Dimtridons are still used for the template spitting dinosaurs. The paint jobs are pretty good too.

If you like skinks, then I have since some players use mixed units of Skinks + Kroxi as Tyrant hordes.
For exemple one rank of 6 skinks + one rank of 3 kroxi + one back rank of skinks = the correct footprint for a tyrant horde, and the presence of the kroxis is usually enough to prevent any confusion about what the unit is.
And of course if you are multi basing you can have some nice options like having a skink move between the legs of a kroxi or similar dynamic poses.
In that case I would probably try to use 4 kroxi + some skinks to represent a horde, and 2 kroxis + skinks for a regiment.

That's an interesting approach, jtrowell. It's not really one I'm going to use right now (already got things kind of based).
Plus I want to try using ghekkos as just ghekkos first. Something fun to consider for another day though!
Didn't find a pterodactyl, but I did find a neat stingray thing. I think it could still work...
