Havent played 40k in 3 years but getting some super cheap firewarriors from the killteam boxes that no one wants. Will build 400pts for combat patrol type games using similar restrictions as killteam; no 2+ saves, AV values etc.
Total noob with Tau and would like a fun all comers list

Base will be 20 firewarriors, 4 drones, 2 turrets, some sort of HQ then either a Piranha or Stealth team.

1. What type of weapon loadout for the warriors? Rifles or blasters?
2. 2 units of 10 or with 4 units of 5? Can use a mix of blasters & rifles too 10 & 10 or 5 & 15. Was thinking 2 units of 5 in the back w pulse rifles and turrets and a unit or 10 or 2 units of 5 w blasters up front
3. What type of drones? Thinking gun drones for a bit more damage
4. Missile pod or smart missles on turrets?
5. Piranha or stealth team?
6. I really dont like the look of the crisis suits so either ethereal or fireblade for HQ?

1 - Depends on the size of your table. When I play KT on 3x3 I use Carbines. On 4x4 I use Rifles.
2 - We don't pay a unit tax, so MSU
3 - Gun Drones aren't really brought for damage, but for wounds catching
4 - I prefer SMS, 4 shots is better than 2. It's not like the DS8 can move anyways
5 - Piranha, only because they bring 2 drones... That you should detach
6 - You don't like Crisis Suits? New faction perhaps?

Use Ethereal with many small units using Rifles
Use Fireblade with a 12 size unit, carbine or rifle is upto you


Here's why I'm not a huge fan of Stealth Suits
Fire Warrior = 9pts for 2 shots 18" S5... 4.50 points per shot
Piranha = 40pts for 8 shots 18" S5... 5.00 points per shot
Crisis Suit = 42pts for 8 shots 18" S5... 5.25 points per shot
2 Gun Drones = 24pts for 4 shots 18" S5... 6 points per shot
Drone Squad = 56pts for 8 shots 18" S5... 7 points per shot
Stealth Suit = 30pts for 4 shots 18" S5... 7.50 points per shot

It'll be 4x4. Will go with rilfes and 5x4 units then and will pick up a piranha and ethereal then.

I get that tau are a suits army but at this low of points I think can get away with not using one and go with the mass S5 shots to carry the game. I just really don't like the cartoony anime look of most of the suits
