I'm torn between making a Tallarn themed Imperial Guard army or making a Thunder Warrior themed Space Marine army, similar to John Blanche's Thunder Warrior depictions. I would do both, but I want to fully devote myself to one or the other. What do you guys think?

P.S. I've have yet to actually begin the game, been wanting to for years now but I want something cool, something that people will look at and go "Woah...that's pretty sweet for a beginner". Converting the mini's is what really draws me to the hobby, so much opportunity within the lore to do all kinds of stuff.

Thunder warriors would be way easier to create simply because space marines are aplenty. All you'd really need is judge Dredd style helmets instead of regular ones.

IG would be more time consuming and more expensive to make but they would be more interesting to my taste. Simply because >70% of the meta are space marines allready.

I prefer tallarn too, and the Tallarn from forgeworld were awesome miniatures.

Yep, Tallarn does sound a bit funner, hit and run tactics and such. The meta is densely populated with Marine players and as cool as a Thunder Warrior army would be, it'd be too difficult to actually get the bits together (I found a multitude of websites for the bits I would use, I added up the cost for a complete 10 man Thunder Warrior squad and it equated to about 50 bucks) plus it'd be a breath of fresh air to see something other than Cadians, I'm sure. I would run the Tallarn using Sentinels and chimeras, very little heavy Armor (To keep with the 'raider and guerrilla warfare' feel). It wouldn't be about winning for me, it'd be all about the narrative and the pure enjoyment of playing

Gotta agree with this, Imperial guard (or Astra Militarum if you like) would be far more interesting to me. And if you'r planning on converting I reckon you'll have far more options with humans than Space Marines

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I'm looking at websites and you are correct, there are WAY more possibilities when it comes to a Tallarn themed army. I'm gonna purchase enough parts to create a 5-10 man squad, convert them up and see how they look. I'll keep you guys posted with the progress, it'll be a while though before i actually begin the process, I've got a pretty busy month ahead of me but like I said, I will definitely keep you guys posted.

Piles of pizza as ojective markers.
Signes with cosa nostra sign on top of the vehicles.
It would make a great army to play against.

I think both ideas sounds great. As others have said, it would be great to see more non-cadian IG/AM armies around, and you could easily source bits from other companies.

I do want to throw out there that you could run a Thunder Warrior themed army based off of the Deathwatch rules. A small, elite army with tons of weird and dangerous weapons. Plus it would keep the cost down from having to convert too many guys. Just my 2 cents

Dang, using the Deathwatch Codex is an excellent idea! I've een thinking about it and I'm probably going to actually get enough bits to make both a tallarn squad and a thunder warrior squad, then I can see for myself which one is better looking.
