One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

Hey all,

I'm starting a Necron army to fill my "Evil" army spot and would like some general advice on what is worth buying and what I should start with so I don't waste money. Which special characters are good? Are Lychguard good? Lychguard are my favorite unit in the codex and am hopeful they are worth their points in a competitive environment. Warriors or Immortals? Best loadouts for Overlord for combat. etc.

Thanks!

I disagree with that list.

The destroyers and canoptek stuff col is recommending is to build the super cheese formations that can be taken as part of a decurion.

Not needed if you want to still have friends.

I really enjoy Lychguard.

My personal lists are as follows.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/674919.page

Taking just a Reclamation Legion, a Royal Court, and a Deathmark unit.

I REALLY enjoy Orikan the Diviner and Vanguard Obyron.

It is a little cheesy to put them in a unit of Lychguard with an overlord and teleport them into the enemies back field. Not because it's the killiest thing in the world, but because it just wont die.

Otherwise I like to mess with the general perception that Necrons are a slow moving gun line by having fast deployment methods for everything.

I don't touch a single canoptek unit. But that's me, and one of the nice things about the Crons. Many different flavors of lists can be built. I recommend you look over the 1d4chan tactica page for them. You can find a lot of neat ideas there and it's mostly accurate.

Try to avoid the heavy cheese or else the games just get dull as dirt.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Listen to the first post. The second one has a lame attitude about "cheese"

Yeah, your right. It's fun for everyone to flood the field in scarab swarms. No player ever has felt a head ache as each turn takes longer and longer as more and more models pile onto the table with no way to stop it. It's the greatest.

On a Canoptek Spyder's Waiting List

First list is great if all you care about is competition. If playing with friends is more your style then try not to bring more than one Canoptek Harvest or even try to avoid decurians at all if they are playing a fluffy list.

Its unfortunate that certain negative stereotypes surrounding tabletop gamers aren't mostly based on fiction.

Thanks for the input all! Sorry about the Noob questions, what makes the Catacomb Command Barge so good? And what would a fully decked out for Combat Overlord look like? I've actually never played against Necrons so sorry about the questions lol. I was thinking about doing the cheese Decurion and Canoptek build but throwing in a Sword and Board Lychguard squad with a decked out Overlord and Orikan and Nemesor for tournaments.

I build my overlord for that team up with the solar staff (I think that is what it's called? The one that lets you use it's ability once a game to make all enemies fire snap shots at your unit for a turn). It allows the unit even MORE protection on the turn they teleport into the enemies back field while they wait to be able to charge. I potentially give him a gauntlet of fire if I got some points sitting around.

That's with Vanguard Obyron, not Nemesor. I always get the 2 mixed up and find Nemesor underwhelming. Not sure if you meant Obyron or not.

Personally my Destroyer Cult Lord is my 'melee' character, with the Void Reaper and a Phase Shifter when I can afford them.

Toughness 6 makes him immune to instant death from Strength 10, and the Void Reaper gives him a reroll to Hit, coupled with Fleshbane and Preferred Enemy he Wounds everything on a 2+ with a reroll.

Its still not an absolute killing machine compared to some heroes but is awesome as far as Necron Characters go.

He normally goes in my Shield Lychguard with the Overlord to give them all Prefered Enemy too.
