I have one myself, although I put pulsars on it because it's an obvious upgrade.
Biggest thing to remember is that it's pretty much impossible to kill unless you land it in a stupid place (like in front of an Imperial Knight with a reaper chainsword). Hurting it when it's flying Requires snap shots, 4+ invul save, completely ignoring all vehicle damage table effects and nibbling through 12 HP - incredible. It's not a huge threat and savvy opponents will just ignore it, since they'll be unlikely to take it out.
You may want to make a Skyshield pad for it, since you don't want to risk 750 points not being on the table for most of the game due to bad reserve rolls. See my pics for my "horizontal portal" which was a "counts as "skyshield.
If you're not taking the pulsar upgrade, 3 max squads of dire avengers is crazy. 90 bladestorm attacks will annihilate anything. It's not an assault craft so assault troops can't assault (unless you take the special formation from DoM, which restricts it to storm guardians).
Or pack it with 2 or 3 squads of Wraithguard. Mix one squad of D-Scythes and one squad of Wraithcannons and you have an impenetrable wall.
There's not standard for base size on the super heavy flyers. I used a 12" plaque.
You'll probably want a paper or cardboard template the size of your customer-made base so you can place it on hills without risking the vampire falling over.
