Hello. I just picked up the kill team pack and decided to play Tau. To my surprise it wasn't already decided what the army would consist of. There are so many options I'M FREAKING OUT. Just wanted to see if anyone knew a simple yet efficient squad I could make out of what comes in the pack just so I can get started putting them together and painting. Really want to play my first game so I can see if it's something I want to continue doing. I do have my codex but it is also a little confusing. I did decide that my team is a strike squad and that we are from the Vior'la sept. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Dakka Dakka!

Tau are pretty neato.

I'm a fan of the original Firewarriors myself... though the breacher dudes sound like they might be fun to try.

Did you by the Start Collecting box? (1 etheral, 10 firewarriors/breachers, 3 suits)

No it's the kill team box it looks like 10 fire warriors 2 drones and a missle pod. I'm just not sure how to build them since there are so many different guns and extra attachments. lol

Welcome!!

You can build them as breachers or fire warriors, but they only give you the stats for the fire warriors in the Kill Team box.

The assembly instructions label the options, but overall, they're pretty straight-forward.

Standard Fire Warriors is mostly the pulse rifles (the long guns). I think they have two of the specialists armed with the pulse carbines in the book (short gun with a hole between the top [rifle] barrel and the bottom ["grenade/photon launcher"] barrel. You can give the sergeant (Shas'o?) up to two drones, you'll possibly want one of them to be shield drone (defensive) or marker drone (offensive).

Welcome to DakkaDakka newcomer!

If you're planning on using those Warriors in Kill Team, then I would build the list as two separate squads of 5. Make one squad a Breacher Team with Photon Blasters, and the other a Fire Warrior Team with either Pulse Rifles, Pulse Carbines or a blend of both. There really isn't a right or wrong selection when it comes to Fire Warriors and Kill Team; all I'd suggest is that you stay away from Guardian or Shield Drones, since they won't be able to protect your squads due to each model being an individual unit. Go with Gun or Markerlight drones - I would personally take Markerlights to help you hit better.

Having two squads means you can take two Shas'uis, who can also take Markerlights. Throw in the DS8 Turret with a Missile Pod and you're all set

You should find rules for the Breacher Team on the instruction booklet if they aren't in the Kill Team book.

Hope this helps you out - enjoy your fight for the Greater Good!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Thank you everyone for the advice. I will probably do what you said General Annoyance I didn't even think about doing half and half that is a great idea. That means I will get to try out both squads as well. I want to eventually do the bigger game but there are a lot of new players at my shop which just opened and they are playing mostly kill team at the moment to get games going and let people see what is possible. Eventually I want to build this army to do both and maybe even switch from Tau to something else but for the time I really like the Tau and I think they will be good for what is happening at my local shop.

If you do build this army up after trying out Kill Team, I'd suggest the Start Collecting set. Great value, and will give you 2 full squads of Warriors, along with an HQ to lead the army

Happy hunting!
