Been toying around with the idea of pulling my Space Wolves out of storage and see if they can be competitive and fun without resorting to spamming Thunderwolves.

Always had a soft spot for the Young King so I decided to build a list around him.

Formation: Blackmanes

Commander: Ragnar Blackmane (195 pts)

Blood Claws "Young King's Pups" (131 pts)
8 x Blood Claw, 1 x Meltagun, 1 Power Fist
Drop pod

Blood Claws "The Misguided Children" (199 pts)
7 x Blood Claw, 1 x Meltagun, 1 Power Fist
1 x Lukas the Trickster
Drop Pod

Sky Claws "Reckless Bastards" (185 pts)
8 x Skyclaw, 1 x Meltagun, 1 Power Fist
1 x Wolf Guard Skyclaw Leader, melta bombs

Grey Hunters "Breath of Morkai" (119 pts)
6 x Grey Hunters, 1 x Meltagun, Wolf's Standard
Drop pod

Grey Hunters "Hunter's Star" (99 pts)
6 x Grey Hunters, 1 x Plasma Gun
Drop pod

Grey Hunters "Gaze of the Wulfen" (99 pts)
6 x Grey Hunters, 1 x Plasma Gun
Drop pod

Grey Hunters "Stargazers" (99 pts)
6 x Grey Hunters, 1 x Plasma Gun
Drop pod

Grey Hunters "Falling Star" (99 pts)
6 x Grey Hunters, 1 x Plasma Gun
Drop pod

Long Fang "White Fangs" (135 pts)
3 x Missile launchers
1 x Plasma Cannon
1 x LF Ancient
Drop Pod

Long Fang "Bloody Fangs" (150 pts)
3 x Lascannon
1 x Plasma Cannon
1 x LF Ancient
Drop pod

Wolf Scouts (75 pts)
5 x Sniper Rifles

Wolf Guard Terminators (224 pts)
2 x WG Terminator with Storm Bolter/Storm Shield
1 x WG Terminator Leader with Storm Bolter and Wolf Claw
1 x Arjac Rockfist

1 x Culexus Assassin (because screw psykers)

Basic plan is to infiltrate the scouts on an objective or near one with an idea position for covering fire.

Infiltrate the Culexus Assassin in a decent position which will get supported by drop pods on turn 1.

Depending on the game the Long Fangs can either start on the table or in drop pods. If they start on the table I can drop empty pods to try and grab objectives or at least contest and make the guy waste shots on a drop pod.

Skyclaws can start on the table well hidden or in reserve

Terminators will Deep Strike

All 9 drop pods come in turn one and everyone has FnP for turn 1.

Thoughts? Does this stand a chance?

Blackmanes are very strong rn, and you have played to their strong suits very well.

They are very good at providing support for things like assassins or standalone units, providing you go first.

However, just a quick little gripe, is your list battleforged?

To benefit from the Blackmanes formation you must have the core choice that are the blackmanes and then at least one auxiliary.

provided you have an auxiliary choice then this list is very strong

I think you are confusing the Wolf Claw Strike Force which requires 1 command, 1 core and 1 auxiliary. But the Blackmanes alone are listed in the formations with a few less benefits but still. Check up the compendium on BoK.

I played a game last night and was up against some Traitor's Hate list which had:
Kharn + 5 terminators in a Land Raider
10 CSM in a Rhino
10 CSM in a Rhino
5-6 Chaos Bikers with a Khorne Lord on a beast
1 demon prince
2 T6 tarpit models that died way faster than expected
1 Hellbrute

We were playing Maelstrom along the length of the table

The highlights of the match:
- Lukas challenges the Demon Prince, promptly gets killed along with this squad but takes the bastard with him.
- Kharn fell in disfavor to Khorne following some cowardice.

Kharn and his terminators shot up Ragnar's squad along with the help of some nearby CSM that disembarked from a Rhino. I lost a few guys no biggie. Kharn and friends charge. I challenge Kharn but instead he sends his chaos champion to face Ragnar. Kharn and friends kill the whole squad except Ragnar who is without a scratch. Ragnar kills the 4 terminators leaving Kharn and 1 other. Ragnar fails his morale check and flees but because of the terminator Kharn cannot sweep and keep Ragnar locked.

My turn a nearby squad of Grey Hunters with a plasma gun gun down Kharn and the last terminator. Khorne was disappointed Kharn did not have the balls to face the Young King and did not protect him. He died.
Ragnar turns his attention to the 10 CSM who shot his squad. Charges them killing 6 out of 10. The squad breaks and is promptly swept. Ragnar proceeds to walk the battlefield alone bustying up transports with melta bombs and wrecking face because he's Ragnar. Unfortunately he met a lascannon shot from the land raider and missed his invul save :(

Culexus Assassin did not have any psykers to play with but he still managed to annoy people and finished off the Chaos Lord with an instant death strike (he only had 1 wound left but it's the cool factor).

I lost on points because he got lucky on some cards but at the end he had:
5 CSM, 1 rhino, 1 land raider

I had
1 full squad of Long Fangs
1 full squad of scouts
4 squads of Grey Hunters (all lost about 1-2 models)
Arjac and his terminator friends

All in all, not bad. Not bad at all.

Might look into making a version with 1 squad of long Fangs instead of 2, keep the termis but remove Arjac and remove the Culexus.
Add a Wyrmstorm Brotherhood with Njal and 2 other Rune Priests and Murderfang.

Yes you are right, I apologize I confused myself!

However, that seems like a hell of game!

The wyrmstorm brotherhood is very good because it can out out a lot of S7 shots
