Thanks all for help on last army list!

I have here a Salamanders Gladius. I know White Scars are better but I like Sally's so here we are. Most Gladius forces are all about attrition and just dropping so much ObSec that you grind out a win. I wanted a little bit killier Gladius.

HQ

Vulkan He'stan
Chaplain

Command Squad
5 Meltaguns
Drop Pod

6x Tacticals
Meltagun
Drop Pod

Assault Squad
2 Flamer
Drop Pod

2x Devastator Squads
2 Grav Cannon
Rhino

Ironclad Dreadnought
2 Heavy Flamer, Chainfist, Ironclad Assault Launchers
Drop Pod

Centurion Assault Squad
Flamers, Hurricane Bolters, Vet Sarge, Omniscope

Flamebringers Auxiliary

Land Raider Redeemer
Multimelta

STRATEGY

I kept playing around with a Salamander Gladius but I kept missing a few things. Yes great against horde armies but not enough "hitting power". It didn't have a command bike squad or grav spam to truly put a hurt on things. So my goal was to create a super aggressive Gladius that can actually kill things.

9 Drop Pods means 5 coming first turn. Command squad, Ironclad, and depending on matchup 1 assault/2 tacticals or 3 tacticals. Normally I imagine it would do some damage but then the opponent would kill the Ironclad and Command Squad and then its just Tacticals running around. But somehow I was able to squeeze in a sweet looking second wave.

After the 5 pods crash down and disgorge 8 Meltaguns, Flamers, and Str. 10 Combat Monster, you have a land raider with 3 assault centurions and a chaplain and 2 devastator rhinos with 6 ap2 shots rushing in behind.

The Land Rainder is my counter assault unit that is super scary on the charge, and with 5 Pods first turn taking away my opponents focus, able to help where needed.

Vulkan will bounce around depending on match up.

Thoughts?

How about this for an alternative aggressive salamanders gladius? The plan is drop pod melta to pop transports followed by whirlwinds and thunderfire cannons raining on the disembarked occupants. Used pods and vehicle wrecks should help keep enemy troops penned in while the artillery does it's job.

Whilst that's going on, Cataphractii captain goes with the grav devastators to hunt tougher targets, all other independent characters can be split between the assault squads. The plain devastator squad commits heresy by breaking the codex astartes - pretending to be a 7th tactical squad in the company by sitting on an objective and firing small arms.

I personally would drop the redeemer. You don't need it and it sits there as a large target early game.

You should ALWAYS take something special on your sgts. Combi weapon matching the squad for sure. Each character (sgts!) gets to master craft a weapon so you get a reroll to hit with it. Why not take advantage of your trait?

Because Vulkan Master-Crafts all melta weapons regardless. although yes, he should pack extra combi's in the detachment, and all chapter tactics based flamers are twin linked.

I generally master craft their bolt pistol or ccw, especially if they're a VS.

The redeemer isn't really worth it. Too easy to kill with the number of haywire, D and grav rolling around. Drop for either another dreadnought drop pod, or consider dropping combi's on all the assault and tacticals. Also put the ironclad in a lucius pattern drop pod. it's 50 points, but the ironclad is not forced to disembark and it counts as open topped. So it can fire the turn it comes down, disembark and assault the next turn from its AV-12 shrouded bunker.
