Coming off of Renegades and Orks from 40k, I want something with a much lower model count. I have a friend whose picking up Vampires and another whose grabbing Ogors so I cant pick them.
I'm not oppose to running one or two bigger units but less models are preferred. I recently ran a 1500 point 40k game that was made up almost entirely of Assassins and that was a lot of fun so anything that goes in that direction would be awesome, that said, I'm not oppose to having big lumbering beasties either.
One thing that is an absolute requirement is character. I love my Ork and Renegades armies because I can convert and do pretty much all I want with them, they have personality. I really liked the idea of Sylvaneth until I remembered this. Bonus points if I can use them in 40k but that is defiantly not a requirement in any way.
Thank you!

Ironjawz maybe? They look like 40k orks and are a more elite army (imagine like an entire army of Nobz). No guns though.

Beastclaw Raiders would be elite heavy. Sylvaneth are definitly more Elitesque, but they need their Battleline!
The most Elite I can think of are Deathlords (Mortarch + Morghasts + rest of points open for summons).
Seraphon With Saurus Guard and eternal Starhost would also be quite Elite!

Ironjawz are a safe bet: your cheapest model costs 18pts (and that's not factoring the points you WILL spend on batallions. and it goes up from there. I've played a 2000pts game with 35 models (though they had like 160+ wounds). you could use the ardboyz was slugga+choppa, the gore-gruntas as bikerz (c'mon they are fething rhino-sized boars, how can you say no to them?) and maybe a brute boss/megaboss as a boss in mega armor (specially the early, who has a klaw)

Ironjawz is a maybe. I use the Megaboss model as my Warboss for 40k. How many models would fill out 1000 pts?
Beastclaw look really good. I'm tempted but with my buddy running ogors I don't know.
Deathlords might be a little too elite, I mean running two models seems a little boring hah. I could be wrong
Hmmmm, Dinos sounds fun. Maybe they should have treefriends Automatically Appended Next Post: Lord Kragan wrote:SirSweetroll wrote:Coming off of Renegades and Orks from 40k, I want something with a much lower model count. Hah! That is significantly less than my 40k Ork army. Theyre defiantly tempting, I assume they're very combat oriented

My 1000 point Ironjawz army is this:
Megaboss
Weirdnob Shaman
10 Ardboyz
5 Brutes
5 Brutes
3 Gore Gruntas
No Warscroll Battalion
980 points
75-80 wounds? Can't remember off the top of my head.
I'm going to try a Warchanter instead of the Shaman, and pick up a Warscroll Battalion though. You could easily do this kind of army with two Starter Box armies and a Megaboss on foot.
Couple things: The army is deceptively fast- don't let the 4" move fool you. Add in the right Warscroll Battalion and Destruction Aligance and it's one of the fastest armies in the game. It has zero shooting. None. Zip. Nodda. And magic is not weak, but it's difficult to use and expensive in only one model. Incredibly tough army with each model having multiple wounds and a good armor save.
Another army possibility: Stormcast Eternals. Low model count, high density ability army. Many of the same characteristics of the Ironjawz.

You've got 79 wounds there. 80 if you get a warchanter and batallion

An elite daemon army would be a good fit.

Stormcast and Ironjawz are probably your best bet for non-monster, elite armies. Units are expensive but very elite, and can do some real work on the tabletop. Stormcast gives you a lot more tactical flexiblity - but Ironjawz are super straight forward, and can be very fast and painful as they just hammer the enemy flat.
Beastclaws are going to be the ultimate low model count army, and they are *mean*. Running your max of Behemoths with them means you're probably looking at less than 15 models in your army, and maybe less than 10, but still packing a lot of power.

Stormcast are becoming a maybe, really like the look of the Justicars of all things. I really like the Ironjaws models but they seem a little too simplistic tacticwise. Looking at the dino models, I'm not a huge fan of their battleline (i think that's the term) troops from a model perspective.
I'm really liking the chaos warriors shields, not so Mich the models themselves. I think theyd look nice on converted bloodreavers (making them warriors). If I had two bigger squads of those, does the rest of the chaos stuff give me options for a more elite feel? (Again, barring the chaos warriors)

They are an uncomplicated army, BUT you have quite a flexibility of list builds and oportunities in the field of battle. Their main shtick is strength and speed (or I should say fast and furious?) which means you can be very good at hit and run. One favourite tactic of mine is hit the enemy frontline, break it and use the movement boons to fly away via retreat and grab the objectives behind it. That tactic won me a match against seraphon.
If you want chaos warriors you could go and grab monsters (that would certainly make it elite) and knights to help you out.

How do the knights play? I saw marauder riders are athing too, and the Vangard (i think that's what they're called, the set of 3)
You can mix and match freely right? Do they synergize with the Blightkings? I'm also pretty fond of the Ogroid Thaumaturge

Yeah slaves to darkness would be good I think. There are plenty of conversion possibilities. Knights are battleline so you can make a fairly elite army with them as a base. You could even use a converted Magnus as your demon prince! I am waiting for Tzeentch Arcanites to come out but am tempted to do something like this in the meantime.

Low model count elite, but not ogors.
Stromcast work for the elite, but not on being characterful with conversion abilities.
As in 40k; greenskins and Chaos are king for character and conversion posibities.
You can run elite, low model count armies with both.

It's funny, but a Nurgle Slaves to Darkness army was my first thoughts for you. I also play Orks/Renegades/Death Guard in 40k, Ironjawz/Skaven in AoS.
Perhaps it's because I'm thinking of converting up an army myself and need an excuse to get a Glottkin?

Oh that model is beautiful, I mean disgusting, but beautiful. I think it makes a good Scalathrax (can't spell) model and I've been dying to use that in 40k.
I think I'll probably go for chaos then, start with mortal and dip my toes in the other fun stuff as I build. Nurgle and Tzeench *HERESY* because I like boils and magic.
Any tips on what to start with/expand to? I'll definitely be grabbing the 10 knights box and convert up some warriors so I have options for battle line. What about after that? I'll probably end up using the Warriors as Crusaders for my chaos inqusition side project.)

I just built some. The kits work really well together. Thinking of using the Knight Shields to make some Breacher Marines.
