I have recently introduced a friend to 40k, and they're at the point where they want to choose an army. Are there any up to date articles that briefly summarise all of the 40k factions (e.g. Brief description of model/pros/cons/playstyle) I've found a few out of date ones , and even more that go I to waaay to much detail.

So far the best I have found is 1d4chan, but that is a lot of text for someone who is new to the hobby.

You could checkout the summaries on 1d4chan. They're a bit tongue-in-cheek, but not too far off the mark either. Just don't take their word for law.
