I know that in eldar myth, dragons were beings of indiscriminate destruction.

I remember reading something somewhere about an eldar mythological hero that fought a dragon, but I can't find it anywhere I've looked.

Anyone know where to look?

In this specific instance no, that was the C'Tan the Void Dragon. I'm looking for the name of an actual dragon in Eldar myth, or the name of a hero who defeated one.

There's an argument that could be made that due to the convoluted nature of eldar myth, and the grounding of most of it in the pre-history of the eldar, that the dragons of Eldar myth could be mythical representations of the Void Dragon and its followers during the War in Heaven.

Both are described as bringing wanton destruction to the universe.

Checked all the Harlequin fluff I have and there's nothing there - and that's normally really good for Eldar mythological references.

It was Vaul who fought the Void Dragon in Eldar mythology; creating first the Iron Knights (which appear to have been similar to Wraithguard and Wraithlords), and then the Talismans of Vaul (Blackstone Fortresses). See 'Translations of Pertinent Eldar Mythic Cycles': 'The Cripple and the Dragon' in White Dwarf 270 (US); also [probably] referenced in Xenology ('In Pearls of Vaul is Dragon becalmed').

The Dragon from which the Fire Dragons take their name isn't necessarily related to the Void Dragon - other Eldar dragons include the beasts ridden into battle by Exodites, for example, so it's not like the Void Dragon has a monopoly on the name (even the Void Dragon class of warship isn't actually named for the C'tan...)

Ah gotcha, thanks I'll see if I can get hold of some of the White Dwarfs with that, but it seems like there isn't that level of detail in the fluff.

Might have been mixing it up with the Fantasy fluff of Vaul forging a sword with Draugnir...

Isn't one of the relics in the eldar codex supposed to be the tooth of a dragon. I don't have my codex to hand but I think that's what the codex says about the firesabre.

For Khaela Mensha Khaine
For the Emperor and Sanguinius!

You're a genius!

A tooth of Draoch-Var, the great drake, was forged into the Firesabre

There's fleeting reference of an Oganathir, the white wyrm, as well
