Hey everyone!

This week I am buying my brother the British stater set for FoW's Team Yankee game as a birthday gift, and that has got me interested in collecting and playing it myself. I'm certain that I'd like to collect a US force; however, me being the kind of person who plans their colour schemes way before buying anything, I'm a little bit stuck on what I'd like to do with the American starter set when I finally get it.

While I like the NATO and the MERDC patterns of camo, I also quite like the idea of having tanks done in just the standard issue Forest Green. However, I'm worried that this would make the models look... boring.

So my question is, what could I do to make the force look more interesting to the eye on a small scale, without the use of camouflage? My current ideas are weathering (obviously), and possibly doing some kind of squad marking set in a vibrant blue colour, although I'm unsure if that last one would be historically accurate to a Cold War Abrams Tank. I would also add that I'd like to steer away from heavy weathering, as the idea of doing these tanks like this is to show how fresh the army is, just like its commander is to Flames of War

I think your 6mm Abrams pop because of those squad markings - the problem I've found with a lot of Flames stuff is that the board often swallows up the models because they're often so monochrome. I suppose that's deliberate since it's meant to realistically camouflage your models, but it'd be nice if I could do some kind of marking to make them pop a little.

I have been toying with the idea of MERDC, but like you, solid Forest Green has some unknown appeal to me

The only thing I can think of is a squad marking like a blue shield, but can't find anything to prove that this might have been how tank squads were marked in the 80's. Perhaps I'll have to go away and read Team Yankee and see if there is something I can work with.
