Alright so I have been in the hobby for a while now, and only now found out about the emperor's table. From what I have gathered, it is a psychic manifestation of the emperor's will that prevents all human souls from being absorbed by chaos. However, what I am curious of, is if it is an actual thing lorewise or just a fictional creation by the church of the emperor.

Also what happens to the souls of those who worship chaos? Is being "claimed" by their patron god always bad? I feel like a soul being claimed by Nurgle (who worshiped Nurgle) would not be as bad of a thing as being snorted by Slaanesh.

Also when I say being claimed by Nurgle, I tend to think of Nurgke being a rather loving chaos god. So I have a hard time believing he would just make your soul Daemon chow.

TOO MUCH CHAOS!!!

I get the sense from the reading that many human souls simply find death to be a one way ticket to a hell like state or consumtion by deamons. HOWEVER if you worship a chaos god you may be drawn to live in their realm where it's insanity may be fun for you, especially if you did great service to the god, (like being made a demon yourself).

I have little knowledge of the emperors table but if true would be nice for humans of 40k. I have thought since reading about how humans were consumed that the afterlife was the biggest problem facing Humanity in a sense they might as well extinguish Humanity because they are all being born simply for lambs to the slaughter even if they are able to continue the existence of the human race.

Not talking with evidence here, but to me it depends on how much grimdark you want. If you want max grimdark, then all human souls are taken by the chaos gods upon their death and tortured eternally, making chaos stronger and its eventual victory inevitable. Yay.
If, like me, you want a little more hope than that (especially for the guardsmen, like me), then you may believe that most human souls are beyond the notice of chaos and just simmer away, or that they actually get to go to the emperors table and have some fun times with all the old heroes (in must be a bloody big table).

Obviously this involves Imperial humans, chaos, tau or other aligned groups may have who knows what happens to them. Chaos being consumed by their deity of choice seems common though.

If we assume that the table exists, then it mainly seems to depend upon the person, their situation, and the state of the battlefield after they died. In wrath of Iron
Spoiler:
A librarian sacrifices himself to close a portal with him on the wrong side of it. The text explicitly mentions that he is killed and his soul consumed by daemons.

Another spoiler for Imperial Glory:
Spoiler:
One of the protagonists, after a fall that should/may have killed him, starts seeing a light and talking to recently dead comrades walking into it, which he does himself. Would be a better example if he wasn't delusional and taking drugs most of the book.

To my knowledge that, and miscellaneous texts about being lost in the warp are all we know about souls.
So if you die in the warp, or in conflict on a daemon infested area, your odds of being sent to the warp would likely be higher than if you died after a greenskin knocked your head off. If the daemons and chaos forces beat you and commence fun torture times, I would say eternal torment is basically guaranteed.

If you allow yourself to be killed and ingested, your soul is forfeited.

Most souls are just devoured by the Warp. In the case of species that aren't Eldar, there is no consciousness after death, so they don't notice... Eldar are and do. Whether the "energy" of said soul goes to one or another of the gods, including the Emperor (if he is, indeed, a god at all) is unknown, possibly even unknowable.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
