Hi everybody, I am looking for some advice as after looking through all the AoS stuff I can find I can't pick an army to play. I have started a sylvaneth army and do not like them most of the units are too slow for my playstyle. I play Dark elder in 40k .

I am looking to start a new army with a more speed and punch . Looking through the army's I think ironjawz or Khorne blood bound would be the best way to achieve this with a cavelry base but I am not sure about either as I would like a ranged unit or two to pick stuff off although with enough speed I suppose this could be done with melee.

Originally when I heard AoS was coming I was thinking of making bretonians but they got axed . Any suggestions are welcome and help is appreciated.

Note not fussed what I end up playing as 90% of the models are lovely. Not a fan of the beastclaw raider models though.

Slaves to darkness can take marauder horseman and Knights as troops if you run them. Also have access to both types of chaos chariots and manticore based HQ giving you a fast and tough chaos force though somewhat melee focused

Brettonians models are "axed" but you can still use them if you can find an army (eBay, or wait until they come back in the Made To Order at some point). They are extremely strong, if you want to play them then scour the net for the models.

That said, fast with ranged options is still available. Free Peoples, for one, can do it with their ranged options and then taking Cavalry and characters on mounts. Demigryph Knights and General on Griffon are amazingly fast and powerful, and you can back them up with ranged prowess.

As Melcavuk said, Slaves to Darkness has options as well. Though if you're going chaos, you can look at a pure Khorne Daemon army for fast. There is the ability to take either Blood Crushers or Hounds as Battleline depending on your General, and both are pretty good for what they do. And then you can back that up with Skull Cannons, which are completely boss at shooting.

What were you thinking of more specifically? You can do fast mounted, or fast on foot, depending on your army. Were you looking more for your ranged to just be supporting fire or to be the brunt of your damage?

I like the idea of shock cavelry so fast mounted ranged was more of a support take potshots at stuff I couldn't reach otherwise.

Thanks for the info so far.

Edit after looking further in to the slavves to darkness route . Would a chariot and cavelry heavy army work?

For dark eldars I would advice you to look at chaos marauders horsemen with javalins. They are fast and can make ranged attacks. For even more speed I'd give Slaves to Darkness units the mark of Khorne and bring a bloodstoker.

Steeds of Slaanesh in various forms are some of the fastest units in AoS, so you could look to them as well. The seekers of Slaanesh have an average threat range of 30"

The brayherds have some synergies that allow their basic infantry to move 10+d6 and still charge. They tend to have lots of models though but with the right synergies that can hit recently hard as well. Another option is the warherd which has a ra ged unit, moves fast, and hits really hard but has a low model count and low save.

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted
I dont paint quickly

Slaanesh is straight up the fastest army in the game, but they have no ranged options unless you go more outside Chaos. Which is fine, because you get nothing special for keeping a Hosts of Slaanesh Allegiance anyway, so yeah.

Slaanesh and Tzeetch Daemons would be fast, choppy, shooty, and magical.
