Hey dakka, with my recent obsession with the Black Dragons, I am seriously planning to make an army of them.

I am considering using the blood angel codex as it seems fitting, savage, fast, and angry.

I will be using dragon claws as death company (with sylvaneth dryad bits for the spikes if anyone was wonderng )

However, I also want to have some sanguinary guard in my army, and I am wondering how they would be represented? There isn't very much fluff on the black dragons that I can find (there's a BL book Im picking up on Friday) and I have no clue how to represent sanguinary guard.

Death company dreads will be pretty obvious, probably a dread with big claws and a dragon head or something of the sort.

Any ideas?

Also, any resources for shoulderpads/small dragon heads for flamers and the such?

Thank you!

~Mikey

If your going for a fluffy looking army I'm not sure you would want to use Sanguinary Guard. The big distinguishing factor for Black Dragons is their bone growths. In fact, the more bone growths a Black Dragon has the more important they are considered. They walk a fine line between useful mutation and full on heresy.

So instead of chainswords give them "swords" that protrude from above the wrist. Veterans can be represented with horns coming out the top of the helmets, not as extreme as something chaos units. These will be mostly represented in a jump-assault unit

I like the Black Dragons too, like all the chapters from the damned foundation they have a dark aura of malevolence. But as as one of the only two succesors chapters of the Salamanders they deserve play with the Salamanders chapters tacticts. I can understand why do you want the BA codex, FNP, Furious assault, rage... but the loyalist to the background is take Salamanders tactics, and honestly, if you play Black Dragons is for the backdroung, the novels...

If you take Salamanders chapter tactics the Dragon claws could be an excellent option for the Vanguard veteran, of course that you could use the BA for the rules, even the Space Wolves to proxie "dragon raiders" (the sigmarines on dragon) but I would prefer Salamanders indeed. Or maybe, if you go the full backgroung way you could make your own chapter tactics, giving them "rending" to all the chainswords. In the horus heresy rulebooks the carnaval blades have this effect for +5 points.

I want BA simply because I like the idea of them charging into assault and BA are an assaultier (if thats a word) army.

Also, I freaking love the idea of dragon claws, and I can't see myself being able to use a lot of vanguard vets in a list.

The five points for rending thing is interesting, I might consider that as my local area is very lax.

Thank you!
