is the amount of detail that GW/forgeworld etc. puts in the lore of the books, codex's etc.

they really care about the IP, its not just a money maker to them

I'm not so sure about GW proper - many of their recent books seem to be simply repackaging old lore for the sake of the gray train, but Forge World certain seems invested in the lore of the game.

On the positive side, GW never fails to put out fascinating models, and of late they are some of the most tight-fitting, easy to put together things I have encountered.

It never ends well

A lot of the codexs recycle old fluff while trimming out bits here and there. The Ork codex for example had a bit of the fluff condensed and didn't really add much in the way of new material. I think it depends on the writer and how much they care about the particular faction.

"Hold my shoota, I'm goin in"
Armies (7th edition points)
7000+ Points Death Skullz
4000 Points
+ + 3000 Points "The Fiery Heart of the Emperor"
3500 Points "Void Kraken" Space Marines
3000 Points "Bard's Booze Cruise"

To some extent you have to recycle lore. There are constantly new players who will never see or read the old books, and old players who never bothered to read the fluff in the old books.

Plus, every time they try something new, like Tau or Newcrons, diehards have fits.

Yeah, don't disagree with this. As someone who's been banging around since 1st ed. though, I'm not really interested in the broader background for, say, my Orks again. Think it'd be nice if there were two versions of the rulebook/codices – one full-blown one with EVERYTHING, and one with just the stuff you need to play your army in the latest edition.

To avoid going off on a negative tangent, here's something I rate: GW fully knocked it out of the park with the GSC release. The models are phenomenal, the Codex does a really nice job of fleshing out not just the faction, but the background of the wider Imperium, and I'm basically just stoked to have a classic faction from when I first got into 40K come back. In case it sounds like I'm giving things a pass based on nostalgia, I'm also super-impressed with most of the AdMech models that popped up while I was away from the game. Definitely going to pick up some of those once I'm done painting up my cultists.

This is sarcasm right?
