Are they worth the insane price? If so, what's the best way to go about getting your hands on them?

Thank you for your time!

On moon miranda.

The "are they worth it" question is entirely subjective, nobody can answet that for you. They have a wide array of cool factor, power level, visual styling, cost, etc.

That said the IA books are pretty spectacular stuff, if a bit drier in content. They read more like books on historical battles than Pow!Whizz!Bang! narratives that the codex books often give. They usually have more game content as well.

Best way to get your hands on them is pretty much the only way, buy it through FW webstore

I only own Death Korps (grenadiers, soldiers and engineers) and the shadow spectres.

The style, posing and tone of the first, and the elegance of the second ones made the price paid worthy.

Now it took 3 edition to make the Shadow Spectres rules not terrible and the point cost acceptable, but what you do demand? Professionalism?

Is 2016 people.

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

I'm a painter predominantly, so ymmv. But I love FW models. They might be in resin, but they are waaaay superior quality compared to GW resin. I would put them on par with GW plastics.

The books can be a bit of a mess sometimes (looking at you Doom of Mymeara), but they are interesting and are full of fun rules.

So, if it's worth it depends on A) what army you play, B) how much you like the models, C) how much you like the rules/concept, and D) how much of a collector you are. (D beats my wallet up just a bit.)

Haha, I love the DKoK, but they were so pricey, and I didn't know if they were decent quality or not. I could have phrased my question better.

Looks like my wallet's gonna take a hit in the near future @.@

Which are the best IA books? As pertains to the IG?

On moon miranda.

The DKoK infantey isnt too badly priced, the Grenadiers are actually cheaper than plastic Scions model for model

As for books, they're kinda awkward for IG. Most are still built around the 2009 5E IG codex, so theyre awkward. The DKOK siege regiment list from IA Vraks is the most up to date, released last year I think, but its DKoK and Renegade specific, as opposed to directly augmenting the IG codex.

Hm... Doom of Mymeara has a bit of IG in it, but it's mostly fluff from what I recall. (DoM has predominantly Craftworld Eldar, Corsair Eldar, and at least 1 Space Wolf - Bran Redman or something.)

Anyway, if you search FW via the Army filter, it should list what books are pertinent. From what I can see, you have 3 for DKoK: IA V1 Ed. 2, Imperial Guard, IA - The Siege of Vracks, and IA V1 - The Fall of Orpheus.

From a cursory glance, it looks like Siege of Vracks has the majority of your DKoK army info. The Fall of Orpheus has the "Assault Brigade" army list for DKOK but looks like a Necron book mostly. IA V1 looks like the compilation of the super-heavies for all IG.

Edit: I swear I can spell.

Using the filters for regular IG pulls up just IA V1 (besides Apocalypse and Aeronautica, which are both used by pretty much everybody but supplemental from all I can tell).

Yeah, IA13 has the DKoK Assault Brigade, its a list I really love the concept of, but its still largely built around the old 5E codex (e.g. Hotshot lasguns cannot benefit from.FRFSRF).

I'm right there with you. FW needs to update IA12: The Fall of Orpheus. I want the DKoK Assualt Brigade to get some love! Or, at the very least, FW needs to release a statement to use point costs from codex:AM.

Forge world kits are generally speaking amazing as far as I'm concerned. It takes me many months to warm up to their prices lol, but I've never once regretted the purchase, quite the opposite actually. Well, at least until I cut/break off a tiny piece of detail or have to break out the hacksaw.

I'm still trying to come up with an excuse to get me a kharybdis though. I love the model, but I'm having trouble justifying it's cost for it's rules/points. I especially like their infantry.

Overall, I find forgeworld provides visuals and rules much closer to the fluff than GW and more mature too.

FW make some lovely models, I personally use them sparingly in my armies as special stand out models. Mainly due to the price.

If you want a specific FW army like DKOK though, I say just bite the bullet and go for it. You won't regret it.

Thanks for all the advice everyone

I just hope this rumored 8th edition won't invalidate any of the IA books... might as well focus on collecting models for now, you think?

I wouldn't worry about 8th. That could still be a ways off still and I doubt it would invalidate the books either. Least no more than the formations already do.

If an opponent says no Forgeworld, a sister company, there is only one answer....Dreadsock!

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Thank you Roknar I'll go ahead and order them then.

Do people really throw fits when you try to use Forge World stuff?

Not really. You'll get a couple, one poster here refuses to allow FW in his events and never actually can explain why other than he doesn't want to "burden" people with...something that's never explained, but mostly it's a holdover from many editions ago when GW events basically treated FW like it didn't exist and stores didn't like it because it didn't contribute to store managers quotas, despite it being an internal group that's not even a separate company. But it really hasn't been an issue for years for 99% of people and players. The most you'll see now is holdovers from the wayback machine and various stores that don't like it because they can't sell it.

Depends on the people. There's no reasonable argument against allowing FW rules, but some people are just TFGs.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Just cant escape 'em, huh? :/ Oh well, its good to know most people aren't TFG, at least.

I'm just surprised people would get that butthurt about it

Yeah one guy at my FLGS will play against FW, but never likes to because he thinks the my are all OP. I assume that's a holdover from years ago because what you can find in the codex is often far more powerful. However in his defense maybe his perception is effected by the fact that I use FW for Kustom stompa as and zhadsnark to give my orks an actual chance and those two things are way better than everything in the ork codex.

It's mostly a holdover from the era when the only fliers and superheavies you could field was via FW.... even then their cost point wise stopped them being OP.

By comparison today, FW books tend to be much more balanced and playtested when compared to many of the main codexes. I suppose it's because they like to give units hard stat increases/decreases and individual units cool abilities.... rather than free transports for everyone or army wide buffs (they do have them but on a lesser scale to GW stuff).

There's also the stories of people who would use the cool toys, but didn't have the books so would just have a printed sheet of paper with the rules, which sometimes were just fanmade rules they found online (whether they knew it or not depends on the person telling the story).
I have a copy of the old IA book, and it's just funny reading the old Baneblade rules. Costs more than a Baneblade does now, but still just fired a 5" pie plate.
