One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

Hey all, I am working on building a list for some upcoming tournaments at my FLGS. From what I've been told it's very competitive. What would a Tournament level Decurion list look like? I've been debating between Destroyer Cult or a Lychstar with Orikan. How many Wraiths should I be running? As well as Tomb Blades and Immortal squad size. Considering it's a highly competitive store, I expect to see alot of Eldar, C: SM, and Tau so I'm going to need the best possible list to be able to compete. There's also one or 2 guys there that run IK as well but that shouldn't be a problem in the slightest.

And gives up Slay The Warlord really easily. And is a Come the Apocalypse ally.

Braindead is the best German player for many years. I guess he knows what he's doing.

I dunno. I'll have to give it a try. (Actually, probably not-I don't run in a competitive meta.)

His list is rather unusual. I'd drop two Tomb Blade units and add another Canoptek Harvest.

ETC lists aren't always the best TAC lists since they usually fit a role on a team.

Wraithstars and Pylonstars are definitely worth looking at as lists that are among the most competitive that Necrons have to offer.

Here is Alex Fennel's Wraithstar list

Reclamation Legion (Core)
Nemesor Zandrekh
10 Warriors
10 Warriors
5 Immortals
3 Tomb Blades: shieldvanes, nebuloscopes

Canoptek Harvest (Auxiliary)
5 Wraiths: 1 whip coil
3 Scarabs
1 Tomb Spider: Gloom Prism

Destroyer Cult (Auxiliary)
Destroyer Lord: Warscythe, Phase Shifter, Nightmare Shroud
4 Destroyers
4 Destroyers
4 Destroyers

Royal Court (Auxiliary)
Overlord: warscythe
Lord: Solar Staff
Orikan the Diviner

Do you know if the store plays per ITC FAQ, NOVA FAQ, or some other standard?
If it's Nova then you have to worry about the Barkstar and need to pack a hard counter like an allied Culexus or Masque. I like the Masque since it can do tricky stuff to more than just psykers, such as forcing swooping fmcs into glide mode and giving -5 BS and no overwatch penalties to units. Also she has Hit & Run so you will give your Wraithstar the special rule so long as he is less than 24" away. You definitely need a battlefield with a lot of BLOS terrain on it to run the Masque, though. And Culexus is a better choice all around if the Barkstar is absent from your meta.

I think basically is Reclaimation Legion, Destroyer Cult and Canopetk Harvest. It is just a question of their composition.

For Rec. Legion, suggest to take more MSU Tomb blades, some of them packing Particle Beamers to clear hordes of light infantries. The Destroyer Cult might be 3 x 3 normal destroyers and 1unit of Heavy Destroyer.

I talked to the Tournament Organizer and he said it's just GW FAQ. Would it be better to run 2 Canoptek Harvests or 1 with a Destroyer Cult? I'm getting the impression that Lychstar isn't the best lol.

I would do two groups of 5 Blades with Blasters, Vanes, and Scopes, and then a group of three with Tesla, Looms, and Vanes for capturing objectives.

Wow that braindead list, that many tomb blades is beautiful, it will make your opponent wish they were facing scat bike spam. Outside of that it's pretty standard, going with a 6 wraith harvest and a judicator battalion because he didn't have points left over for a d-cult.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

I guess not. You could hide him all day.

As said the ETC is a bit special. That many Tomb Blades are nice, but they many need time to get into range for full effectiveness.

One thing I learned from playing Warmachine is to never fully trust any army list that comes from a team tournament. The way that they do things is completely different to any sort of regular tournament.

Decurion advice:
- Do not discount Tomb Blades. They're one of the best units in the codex. You're gonna wish you had more.
- Do not expect the Harvest to do a lot of killing. Wraiths are primarily used for tarpit and Scarabs usually need a ton to be effective.
- Destroyers are your heavy lifters. Just make sure you keep them near cover so you can reliably jump-shoot-jump to get maximum milage out of them.
- Warriors are handy but should not be expected to carry the whole list unless you've put a ton of points into them.
- If you're going to put your Immortals on a back objective and forget about them, give them Tesla.
