Is this a pretty decent 500 points list? I'm playing Salamanders, so I tried to make it a bit fluffy by loading up on flamer/melta weapons. I'd run the Librarian with the Tactical Marines in the Razorback and have them be the primary scoring units. The scouts would mostly be harassers/light vehicle hunters/objective rushers, and the dread would deep strike in wherever he's needed to support the tactical squad or the scouts. I'm new to the game, so I'm not sure if this is a sound strategy or not.

Librarian (1) - 90pts
1 Librarian: Frag and Krak grenades,Psyker Master Level 2,Bolt pistol,Force weapon

Tactical Squad (5) - 90pts
1 Sergeant: Combi-flamer,Chain sword,Melta bombs
3 Tactical Marine: Boltgun,Bolt pistol
1 Tactical Marine: Flamer,Bolt pistol

Razorback (1) - 75pts
1 Razorback: Twin-linked assault cannon

Scout Squad (5) - 70pts
1 Scout Sergeant: Combi-melta,Chain sword,Melta Bombs
4 Scout: Close combat weapon,Bolt pistol

Land Speeder Storm (1) - 40pts
1 Land Speeder Storm: Heavy flamer

Dreadnoughts (1) - 100pts
1 Dreadnought: Multi-melta,Power fist with stormbolter

Drop pod (1) - 35pts
1 Drop pod: Stormbolter

First, Welcome to Dakka.

That’s a tidy little 500 point list. At that level, there are always going to be trade-offs, and it’s hard to make a true take all comers list, but you do a pretty good job. I might do a few things differently, but most are going to be lateral swaps.

I might drop the melta bombs and get a HF for the dread.
Or swap the Razor’s turret for a TLLC, just so you have something in your list with more then a 24” range.
Trade the scout sarge’s combi and melta for a power weapon.

But honestly, I’d just run what you have and see how it works.

Thanks for the feedback! My logic for using the Assault Cannon is that if I'm going to be aggressively pushing forward with my flamer/combi-flamer tactical marines, then the long range firepower of a TLLC would be wasted. I was considering dropping the Melta Bombs, and just taking a MM on the Landspeeder Storm but I'm not 100% sure yet. The Heavy Flamer, especially with Salamander tactics, just seems like a more versatile option if my Scout Sergeant already has a combi-melta/melta bombs. As for the dread, I'm using an AoBR dread and I prefer to do WYSIWG when I can.

I agree that the TLAsC is the best razor for aggressively forward deployment. It’s just my generalist Ultramarine that likes to see a more balanced army capable of engaging at range. But I understand that Salamanders are not actually capable of seeing anything farther away then the end of a flame template, so this might not bother you.

The LSS does not have Chapter Tactics, so might not benefit from your CT. It’s been a while since I took a look at the fine print though. The HF is a good pick though. MMs are not bad either, it’s really a coin toss.

I understand the desire for WYSWYG, and play that way myself. If that’s the dread you have, field him. But he defiantly does have the CT, and would get the boost on his flamer.

Good point about the Landspeeder Storm; I completely forgot about that. I'll just stick a Multi-Melta on there and drop the Melta Bombs. A combi-melta, two multi-meltas, and an assault cannon should be more than enough to handle any armor I run into during a 500 point game. I really would like a Heavy Flamer on my dreadnought for fluff reasons, but then again dropping over 20% of my points on a single model does make me a little uneasy. Here's my revised list:

Combined Arms Detachment

Librarian (1) - 90pts
1 Librarian: Frag and Krak grenades,Psyker Master Level 2,Bolt pistol,Force weapon

Tactical Squad (5) - 85pts
1 Sergeant: Combi-flamer,Chain sword
3 Tactical Marine: Boltgun,Bolt pistol
1 Tactical Marine: Flamer,Bolt pistol

Razorback (1) - 75pts
1 Razorback: Twin-linked assault cannon

Scout Squad (5) - 65pts
1 Scout Sergeant: Combi-melta,Chain sword
4 Scout: Close combat weapon,Bolt pistol

Land Speeder Storm (1) - 50pts
1 Land Speeder Storm: Multi-melta

Dreadnoughts (1) - 100pts
1 Dreadnought: Multi-melta,Power fist with stormbolter

Drop pod (1) - 35pts
1 Drop pod: Stormbolter
