I... actually don't know. Help?

I'll be getting 15 MkIII Marines from the Prospero box, and I want to use them for my Wolves. They can't be Grey Hunters or Blood Claws, they're supposed to be veterans seeing as their armour is ancient.

So, what should I do with them? One thing I've though about would be to give everyone shields and swords/axes, another thought would be to use 10 of them in the Wolf Guard Thunderstrike formation.

Honestly Wolf Guard are pretty meh in our codex. The rare uses I find for them are in the Wolf Guard Thunderstrike with max Combis in a Drop pod with a group of Termi's decked in combis.

Going full melee isn't worth the points and they are a really fast points sink

PA Wolf Guard with power weapon + combi = 43 points
TDA Wolf Guard with power weapon + combi = 38 points

I think this demonstrates adequatly that PA WG are simply overpriced and have not really a place in a serious list.

A squad with axes/shields would look rad though. With 48 PPM not really playable (a Wulfen with TH/SS is 50 ) but if you are more a collector or a casual gamer then it could be ok. And there is always hope for a points decrease in the next codex

Agreed with spiritfox, they quickly become a pointsink. I always do mine with the combiguns that chapterhouse does cause of the magnetizable nature. Armor wise I see where you are coming from, but I plan to do mine in the 30k color scheme but just running them as normal grey hunters, magnetizing arms may be worth while. Maybe they were doing a ceremony to honor the ancients or something in rememberence then got attacked, or whatever fluffy justification helps you sleep at night.

One thing to remember is that you don't have to buy a Power Weapon for everyone. Just a few and you can kill stuff.

That said, that price difference is bogus. I didn't even know Space Wolf Terminators had access to Combi-Weapons until recently.

b-but muh Phil Kelly is a genius

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

Proxy them as wufen.

Other than that, combis in a pod is probably the only way to go.

Hmm, I'd prefer not to cut them uo too much, so Wulfen might be a no go...

Honestly I think you could get away with using them as Grey Hunters. While the armour is ancient and seeing GH in Mk III may be uncommon, it isn't impossible. I was thinking of starting the Wolves (eventually ) with the Prospero box, as having 30 GH is a nice backbone to my force, especially with Geigor to lead them.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!
