Working on getting a KDK army going and was curious if saving up and spending 8 Tithe points on a Thirster was worth it or are the Tithe points better spend elsewhere? Is it situational?

Also, is there a army point minimum of any type before you could bring a Thirster in? As in would it be too OP in say a 500-750 pt game?

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Most of the time, the best thing to spend Blood Tithe points on is #3 for Feel No Pain.

I find that if I've manage to have an bloody turn and rack up 8 points then a bloodthirster is a good idea.
However, its almost never worth sitting at 3-5 BT points and thinking you'll save them up for the next turn. As soon as I get 3 I spend them.

As for points level... You'll get much more use doing FNP

Sometimes yes. Especially when your warlord is about to get splattered. The other stuff is arguable cause it can only come from non-daemon stuff and you still need to pass ld and than make a deepstrike within 6 with full scatter danger.

Actually it's 12 inches for most summoning, although you are correct about the Bloodthirster summoning being 6 (same for a Daemon Prince). One way to mitigate this is to have a unit of Bloodletters nearby with a Banner of Blood, because then there's no scatter.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I'd say it's situational, but if you had a glut of points from the prior turn, I vote burning them on a thirster on being the right play 90%+ of the time. At worst, the firepower the other player has to spend to remove it will be roughly equivalent to the FNP.

All good points. Yeah I don't think I would purposely hold out for it on a smaller army game but if they were there by chance I'd have to pop it. It'd definitely draw some attention and be a bullet magnet but would help others get down the board. Plus if it actually gets into combat with something it should hammer on them pretty well before dying or killing itself off.

ZergSmasher, good idea about the Bloodletters with banner. I plan on having a few units of them running around so will definitely keep that strategy in mind.

I like the scullcannon. No need for ld. s8 bs5 large blast from the get go.

Right on. Yeah I definitely plan on adding in a cannon or two down the road once I've got the basics covered.

Be warned, to build that KDK list to where you are able to summon most of what you want, you need 3 to 500 points more than your actual list. Even more if you summon princes and thirsters
