I'm already sold and have my initial miniature purchase planned out, the only question is what else I get?

The scenery sets look like a good deal, but I understand that Infinity is played on a 4x4 and the mat is smaller. Is that worth getting?

Do I need to get tokens to play? Should I even if I don't NEED them?

Any tips, experiences and regrets would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the tokens you'll need will be included on the flaps of the boxes you buy.

The scenery sets are worth it, but if you're buying any of the 2 player starters(Icestorm and Red Veil) or the USARF box? The scenery sets are included in the box.

I'm not buying a 2 player starter. Getting a ALEPH starter and support box to start.

I didn't expect tokens to be included! That's fantastic!

There are not many tokens on a given box. However, you can simply download the files here http://infinitythegame.com/archive.php under the heading markers, and print your own. A 1"/25mm hole punch will come in handy. There are a variety of methods of making them more durable, like affixing them to cardstock, or using these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004L6NTZM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_sTHyvb1VG00R0

There might be a few more interesting things for you on that page too. Poke around a bit.

Yeah, I should have been a bit more specific.

You don't get crazy amounts of tokens, to the point of you'll never need any. But each box gives you the 'important' ones for that box. Things like Camo, Immobilized, etc.

Getting the tokens for the units in a particular box is already more than I'm used to.

You get a few on the boxes, but nowhere near enough. It's more of a neat extra than it is anything else. Luckily, CB provides tokens free at the linked page, and there's a fan made token maker that is excellent, allows you to prnt exactly what and how much you need

http://inf-dice.ghostlords.com/markers/

You will also need the standard tape measure, about 5 D20's, the templates and the silhouette markers. You can print the templates and silhouettes, but I highly recommend buying a set of the laser cut acrylics from any of the CB partners like Warsenal or Customeeple, they're very much worth it

https://warsen.al/collections/templates

Scenery is where most of your expense comes in, not the miniatures. Expect to pay $300+ for a full table worth of MDF buildings and odds and ends. There's some cheaper MDF sets out there, and you can always make your own stuff for a fraction of that out of foamcore. I most certainly recommend starting out with the cardboard Infinity terrain sets, you'll need about 4 to cover a table and you can overlap the paper mats so they cover it all. This is a great option to start out with as it's cheap, it folds away so you can bring it to a game store/friend's house and it looks pretty good. You can reinforce it so it lasts longer and replace it bits at a time if you want

What about templates? I assume they are not the same as warhammer templates.

Stuff that's actually needed:
- templates (small teardrop, large teardrop, circular) - WARNING! Get templates for 3rd edition, i.e. with 10 directions on the circular and not 8.
- d20s (five is plenty)
- Silhouettes
- Markers: Camo (remember to have extras for mines), TO Camo, Impersonation (you'll want it for the Asura hacker), holoecho (x2 for each unit with Holoprojector 2 or 3).

- Tokens: orders (regular, 1 lieutenant, some irregulars for when you go into LoL), wounds/unconscious, prone, fireteam leaders if you play sectorial. All other statuses are easily solved by getting some blank tokens you can draw on with a dry-erase marker.

If you have an active local Infinity community, bug someone who bought an extra Icestorm/Red Veil/USAriadna army pack, those include big sheets of cardboard markers that will last you until you know exactly what you need.

Thanks, I'll make sure I get those.

How big are the markers? Can I make markers out of 25mm bases (so they're prettier)?

- Camo, TO Camo, Impersonation, Holoecho, Mines and other deployables have to have the same base size as the model that hides under.
- Silhouettes have specific sizes.
- wounds, orders, and other status markers are not size specific, I made them on 17mm hexes so it's instantly clear that they don't have physical presence on the table.

You can - for the most part.

Cam/TO camo depend on the model Silhouette value (so S1-2=25mm, S3/5/6=40mm and S4/7=55mm sizes).
Objective markers are 40mm (I used 40mm poker chips for mine).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

The round template is 12cm diameter - you can use a CD/DVD if you want. You only need the scatter directions for models using Airborne Deployment, so if you don't have any of those, you're OK.

I actually use CDs covered in cotton balls for my smoke markers, as a possibility if you need some...
