I really like the Space Marine Lamd Raider Spearhead formation, because the raiders become incredible difficult to destroy in most cases. I was also thinking that if you go with Iron Hands chapter tactics, the IWND would be even more obnoxious. Well, what would benefit the most from being transported in a tough land raider? My thoughts are TH/SS terminators or Assault Centurions. They would also benefit from Iron Hands FNP as well.

That being said, what is the best way to run a list like this? I'm generally an 1850 ITC type of guy. Should I find a way to use the Fist of Medusa strike force for even better FNP and a chance for two warlord traits, or should I be looking at something else? Are there any chapter tactics that really benefit terminators and Centurions? Black Templars seems not all that great to give up FNP or IWND, but I could be missing something.

Any other ideas?

I have to ask: how often do Land Raiders REALLY live in your area?

Assault Centurions; Grav Cents are so much better out of a pod it's not even funny. Even in the spearhead LR are incredibly frail in this day and age so be ready for that.

LRs are in a kinda odd place. There is a lot of stuff (Strength D) that will pop them as easily as a rhino. On the other hand, people who are just spamming scatbikes to HP out vehicles via their weak side/rear armor are in for a rude shock. They are very much “rock” in the 40k game of rock, paper, scissors.

Generally you want a CC unit inside. They all have their pros/cons. Honor guard and vanguard vets should also be on your list, or a command squad. Techmarines can fix the LR while inside, which can be frustratingly fun. Chaplains leading the guys down the ramp are always good.

Another thought would be something ObSec. You are going to be outnumbered with all the points sink into the boxes. Might be worth having troops that can actually hold things.

Nevelon, you've touched on what I've been seeing in my local meta. D-Weapons are pretty uncommon, and everybody else is running Burst Cannon Riptides, Scat Bike Spam, or Grav. The IWND Land Raiders would be a rude awakening, for those folks for sure.

Also, the Centurions have oddly alot of utility, if only there was a way to make them a little faster. Meltaguns and Split Fire can make a big difference. This is the battle report that got me thinking about it:

Anyway, the problem being that if I run 3x Land Raiders in the Spearhead, and 3x Centurion squads, that doesn't leave alot left for really anything else, so it makes me want to double down.

On the other hand, I can do 4x Land Raiders and 4x TH/SS terminator squads, but I'm not sure if that's better or worse. The land raiders in this list don't really do a whole lot other than to give the Centurions/Terminators a ride.

also have Wraithknights, easy access to other D sources, and Fire Dragons. Just sayin'

The problem is Terminators just aren't killy enough. I've run assault terminators from a LR before, they just never earn their points back. Godhammer pattern is godawful (maybe if they got 2 hits per LC 'array'?), overcosted. LRC isn't too bad but again they are significant points sinks for a unit that can be one-shotted.

As mentioned above, Grav centurions in a Pod are waaaaaay better.

With the IH tactics I would run the Spearhead and a 1st Company task force to give yourself fearless vets, PE to one enemy unit and a Ld debuff to the enemy + the extra resilience. It gives you enough room for a 3rd detachment, I'd say either a small CAD or a Libby conclave for power shenanigans. Or a unit of Custodes

I'd take 3 godhammers
A libby conclave
1st comapy task force -
3x 9 man units of VV armed with an assortment of weapons and strom shields. Run the Libbies 1 in each LR.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.
