Is there any reason why a Sister of Battle who was gravely wounded could not be placed in a dreadnought? Would they have access to contemptor dreads (considering their founding was before the 36th millennium).

Thanks,

Outer Space, Apparently

From Lexicanum, sourced from IA: Volume 2 - "It is said that old proto-Dreadnoughts of the Unification wars could be piloted by non-Adeptus Astartes warriors, but later only Space Marines could be inherited in them"

It seems that they have been designed only to house Space Marines.

For all we know maybe they do. Maybe GW will release a Sisters dreadnought and tell us that they have always existed, we just never encountered them in fiction or model before by random chance. That's the way GW rolls.

Well there was one sisters of battle dreadnought but it was long long ago and not in the codex itself

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Yes that "Sisters" Dreadnought has popped up a number of times on these forums. Not usable now.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.

Nothing in fluff indicates there would be. Possible it could be added. But for in-universum possibilities as to "why not" maybe dreadnought operating depends on the black carapace marines have to control power armour? No black carapace, dreadnoughts interface doesn't work.

The classic Inquisition Wars novels by Ian Watson had a former Assassin Grand Master interred in a dreadnought so there's precedent for non marines.

Ah so assuming assasin grand masters don't have some implant of their own that would allow it then that sorts out technical issues.

Then it could be resources(not enough dreadnoughts there would be room for "lesser" wielders), just dogma "This is how it's been, doing it otherwise is heresy" or maybe sisters themselves consider it heresy or some other reason(biggest one being no model )

Ravenor the inqusitor is also in a kind of Dreadnought. I know it was only a life suporting system but... it was mobile and he was able to control a lot of technical stuff. there is no long way to attach legs and weapons to this

Intering a sister on the cusp of death also goes against their whole martyr thing. Better to let them die gloriously, join the Emperor, and use their death as a rallying cry for the next wave.

I'd second this. Several Marine chapters (White Scars, for example) prefer to die in battle than live on as a dreadnought.

If I remember. Apparently implanting someone (a space marine) into a dreadnought is so painful that it can kill those without the strength and willpower to get through the process. Heck there needs to be an apothecary on hand to put them out of their misery if they can't take it after being sedated with the most powerful painkillers the imperium has on hand on top of being a space marine.

So now a days only space marines can do it and even then only a small number of them can survive the process of being put into the things.

Well, Sisters do quite well on the willpower side. One could even say that they have a will of… Adamantium!

With the way Sisters are obsessed with dying for the Emperor, I would think they would find it to be a terrible punishment.
