Very well-done. I really like the scheme overall, nice vibrant blues but still suitable for Krieg in my opinion. Something I really like, which you don't see enough of, is the different colour scheme for the Death Riders. Really makes them stand out and seem more 'elite' and fanciful than the standard infantry.

I very much would like to do something similar. Would you happen to have a rough breakdown of which paints you used to achieve the look on your infantry? I am bookmarking your site for when I have time to properly digest it. Thanks for the inspiration - and well done again on a very well turned-out group.

Thanks – I wanted to make the cavalry look a bit more elite as you say – I got inspiration from the French cavalry uniforms of 1914 which we amazingly virtually the same as Napoleonic times.

The infantry coats were done using various Vallejo Model Colour blues –
Basecoat: Mirage Blue
Mid-tone: Grey Blue
Highlight: Pastel Blue

The pastel blue is quite vivid – if you wanted your coats to be greyer (and probably more realistic) then I would use it sparingly. I quite liked the brightness of it though.

The dark blue(helmets and equipment) was GW Regal Blue (or whatever it is called now) highlighted using Fang and then a coat of satin varnish.

I’m going to be typing up my rough painting notes into a chart for the infantry so I get it right when I paint future units –if you wanted a copy when I get round to it then drop me a pm and I’d be happy to share

They look fantastic for some reason, the Krieg Rough Riders really stand out as something really striking. I've always seen Krieg armies as masses of footsoldiers and tanks.

Having mounted Kriegers works so well, and it's the first I've seen

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

Lastly I contribute to a blog too! http://objectivesecured.blogspot.co.uk/ Check it out! It's not just me

Really good looking Death Korps. Great representation of the WWI infantry. When I first read the French used light blue to blend into the sky I thought they were crazy. But I guess it made sense given the Germans were in trenches looking up. The light colors look really nice on those models.

thanks. I think in reality the French Horizon blue faded very quickly to a dull greyish colour which probably makes more sense.

Interesting. I can definitely see the WWI French influence in the infantry, but that cav reminds me of old Prussian uniforms:

Spoiler:

I so wish that FW did a pickelhaube head kit.

Yeh the whole Death Korps theme is a mix of Prussian and French. The French Cavalry at the outbreak of WW1 were virtually Napoleonic and thats what i've tried to emulate here.

It would be relatively straightforward to do a pickelhaube with small spearheads added to the existing FW helmets i guess.

While I really like the overall feel and scheme of your army, there is one point of criticism or missed opportunity if you will from me.

I think it would have looked even better if you had varied up the horses of the outriders a little more.

Yes I agree. When I paint historical units I always vary the horse colours but for this unit I decided that - because they are vat bred - I would make them a standard colouring. However in hindsight I should have included some more variety. Perhaps when I've saved up enough to buy a second unit
